As a seasoned crypto investor with a keen eye for unique opportunities and a soft spot for artistic expressions, I find Justin Sun’s latest move to be nothing short of inspired. It’s not every day that one encounters a blend of art, technology, and philanthropy so seamlessly intertwined.
On November 28th, Justin Sun, who’s associated with Tron on Twitter/X, announced his intention to purchase as many as 100,000 bananas from the very fruit stand where the famous duct-taped banana originated.
Currently thriving fruit shop, situated in New York’s Upper East Side, is run by Shah Alam. It has been revealed that this very shop will give away bananas globally, courtesy of Shah Alam.
The Tron founder urged everyone to bring a copy of a valid ID to claim their share of the fruit while supplies last. Sun’s gesture comes after a banana from the same fruit stand sold for $6.2 million at an auction. According to Sun, this gesture aims to celebrate the artwork and promote crypto.
Justin Sun Appreciates Alam’s Art Contribution
On a recent social media post, Sun announced that he had purchased numerous bananas from Alam’s fruit stall as a tribute to life and artistry. Additionally, he recognized Alam for his efforts in fostering creativity, emphasizing his significant role in creating the renowned artwork that garnered widespread acclaim and recognition.
In appreciation of Mr. Shah Alam, I’ve chosen to purchase 100,000 bananas from his store in New York’s Upper East Side. These bananas will be given away for free, worldwide, through his store. Simply present a valid ID to receive one banana, while supplies are available.

In the same post, Justin Sun mentioned that this initiative will bring art to a bigger audience and shared his plan to visit the fruit stand in person so he can extend his appreciation.
Previously considered ordinary, the duct-taped banana has since gained significant artistic and cultural significance after being transformed into a piece of art by Maurizio Cattelan. This happened last Wednesday when it was sold at Alam’s fruit stand.
In Catellan’s art sale, a whopping $6.2 million was earned, but the auction house pocketed $1 million as their commission fee. Meanwhile, Alam prices his bananas individually at 35 cents each.
Like The ‘Comedian,’ Justin Eats His Banana
In 2019, Catellan’s unique banana art journey began at the Art Basel Miami Beach International Art Fair. Over the course of the event, there were three versions of “The Comedian,” which sold for prices ranging from $120,000 to $130,000.
In most instances following a successful auction, the artist would consume the banana he had taken out, then put another one in place to carry on with his “Comedian” act.
In another post, Sun hinted that he would consume a banana on November 29th. True to his word, the cryptocurrency magnate did eat a banana in the presence of influencers and media personnel at one of Hong Kong’s premium hotels. Additionally, he delivered a speech, acknowledging the art pieces and drawing parallels between this avant-garde art form and the realm of cryptocurrencies.
Alam’s Response To The Banana Sale
As an analyst, I’m sharing a heartwarming story that recently came across my desk. Justin Sun emailed about Alam, the humble fruit vendor who contributed to his duct-taped artwork creation. It seems that Alam was genuinely pleased to learn that his role in the project was valued.
The report continued by stating that Alam showed signs of distress and shock upon discovering the amount raised from the auction. At 74 years old, this vendor allegedly inquired if the buyer was aware it was just an ordinary banana. Catellan was touched by the vendor’s emotional response to the artwork and noted that art has the power to stir emotions in a variety of ways.
