Kill All Guests Stealthily in Oblivion Remastered’s Whodunit Quest

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion” is particularly recognized for its engrossing, free-form missions and standout faction storylines. One of the most renowned missions in “Oblibion” is “Who Dunnit?”, a mission from the Dark Brotherhood that challenges players to eliminate every other guest in a house without anyone becoming suspicious.

In Oblivion Remastered, there are various approaches to solving the “Whodunit?” mystery and eliminating all guests undetected. This guide demonstrates how to initiate the “Whodunit?” mission in Oblivion Remastered and outlines three strategies for successfully completing this task without raising suspicion: the quiet, stealthy assassination approach, the method involving Disposition and manipulation, and the poisoned apple technique.

How To Start “Whodunit?”

Are you fond of attending parties? If so, I have some exciting news – there’s an upcoming event that you’re invited to! Just keep in mind that your presence is sure to outshine everyone else. Are you prepared for this social gathering?

To embark on the “Whodunit?” mystery, players of “Oblivion Remastered” need to advance through the Dark Brotherhood questline until they complete all four of Vicente Valtieri’s introductory missions. After that, you will be tasked with acquiring new assignments from Ocheeva.

Following the successful completion of her initial jobs titled “The Lonely Wanderer” and “Bad Medicine”, character Ocheeva will provide the “Whodunit?” mission for you, guiding you towards a Summitmist Manor located in Cheydinhal.

Oblivion Remastered “Whodunit?” Contract Walkthrough

In the game “Whodunit?”, your objective is to eliminate the five other individuals confined within the house. It might seem straightforward, but to receive the bonus, you must eliminate them sequentially without stirring any doubt among the remaining guests. To embark on this murder mystery adventure, players of “Oblivion Remastered” should venture to Skingrad and follow the compass to locate Summitmist Manor in the heart of the city. Speak with the doorman to obtain the key to the manor, then proceed inside.

There are five guests you must kill to complete the Oblivion Remastered “Whodunit?” quest:

  • Dovesi Dran, a young Dark Elf woman, who typically spends time upstairs or wandering to and from the dining table. She fawns over Primo, and can be convinced to wait for him alone upstairs.
  • Matilde Petit, an old Breton woman who mostly wanders around the two main floors of the house, but doesn’t like Dovesi Dran very much.
  • Nels the Naughty, a burly Nord man who almost always stands in the corner near the dining table with his back to the wall, whose deceased daughter looked like Dovesi Dran.
  • Neville, a rich Nobleman who is usually pacing around the lower floor or sitting at the dining table, who takes a fancy to Dovesi and can be convinced to wait for her upstairs.
  • Primo Antonius, a Redguard and former Imperial Legion soldier who can be found alone upstairs at the start of the mission, but otherwise wanders throughout the house.

It’s common for most guests to retire to their rooms during the night, which often finds them in a solitary and potentially exposed state.

Simply Kill Guests With Stealth Archery One By One

The most straightforward approach for solving “Whodunit? Oblivion Remastered” is to eliminate each character individually using a high-powered bow. Ensure your arrows are made of Steel or stronger, and take advantage of the 3x damage multiplier from sneaking to kill every “Whodunit?” NPC with a single shot.

The challenging aspect lies in isolating each person separately since guests usually move about in groups. However, ideal targets for an initial strike are Matilde Petit as she navigates the stairwell to the second floor, Primo Antonius when he is secluded upstairs, or Neville while he explores the ground floor. Provided no one else witnesses you (indicated by the Stealth Eye in your crosshair), you will avoid detection.

Nels is the most difficult character to eliminate because he usually stays near the dining table drinking, with his back against the wall. To take him out, hide by the staircase leading to the bedrooms, then carefully peek around the corner when you have a clear line of sight. Remember, there’s a fine balance between being noticed and remaining unseen, so make sure your stealth mode is active before attempting to shoot him.

Raise Your Disposition To Avoid Suspicion

If you prefer not to engage with Stealth Archer’s gameplay, opt for the psychological approach instead. In this mode, aim to be well-regarded by all characters in the house. When murder mysteries unfold, your high standing will make them less likely to suspect you. You can boost your reputation by either using the Persuasion mini-game or by offering bribes. The goal is to increase each character’s opinion of you until their ‘Disposition’ reaches 70.

At this juncture, guests will share their honest opinions about others, which is valuable to know and should be checked every time you eliminate someone for potential insights useful in the future. Await a favorable Reputation status before embarking on gathering additional data from them.

Kill Some Guests, Make The Rest Turn On Each Other

In the Murder Mystery quest within Oblivion Remastered, you can uncover a fact about many of the guests: They harbor significant dislikes for one another.

  • For example, Dovesi Dran hates Matilde Petit and Primo Antonius, and will try to attack them if either is still alive after three other guests have been killed.
  • Additionally, Primo Antonius hates Nords, and Nils hates Imperials for what they did to his daughter. After you murder other guests, as long as your disposition is high enough, these two will blame the other and start swinging.

So long as the attendees don’t accuse you of the killings, they’ll instead begin to point fingers at each other. A subtle nudge is all it takes – after you carry out each murder, converse with each guest to see if they suspect another attendee. If you let them live after three others have been killed, they’ll quarrel among themselves, and you’ll only be left with the final survivor to deal with.

The Poisoned Apple Method

Here’s another approach players can consider to minimize conflicts and role-playing: By employing poisoned apples, you can eliminate almost all guests except one (Nels), without raising any suspicion or needing to manipulate them against each other. However, since there are no poisoned apples in the house initially, you’ll first have to locate some.

As a devoted fan, I can either chat with M’raaj Dar in Cheydinhal’s Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary to acquire up to five items, or I could rummage through a tricky locked barrel inside Lucien Lachance’s lair within Fort Farragut, hoping to stumble upon a hoard of ten.

To make an NPC consume the poisoned apple, it’s essential to eliminate any nearby edible options first. Failing to do so increases the likelihood that they’ll opt for other food sources instead of the poisoned apple.

As a cunning gamer, you have the option to strategically place the toxic apple on the table within your foe’s reach, or deftly slip it into their inventory without them knowing. If there aren’t any other edible items nearby or hidden in their stockpile, they’ll unwittingly grab it and face a grim fate.

The tainted apple inflicts a relentless 10 points of damage to their health every second, and once applied, can’t be undone. So, be on your guard to avoid accidentally consuming one yourself!

Oblivion Remastered “Whodunit?” Quest Rewards & Bonus

If you manage to eliminate every participant in the “Whodunit?” murder mystery game within Oblivion Remastered, players will be rewarded with a highly potent, lasting advantage. Speak with Ocheeva, and she’ll grant you the Night Mother’s Blessing – a permanent boost to your abilities that increases your Sneak, Security, Acrobatics, Blade, and Marksman skills by 2 points each.

As a gamer, I’ll also be rewarded with an escalating amount of Gold depending on my level, and I’ll get the chance to take on the final contract from Ocheeva: “Permanent Retirement.” This mission tasks me with eliminating a retired Imperial Guard captain, followed by placing his finger as a cautionary gesture in the office of his successor, a grim reminder from the Dark Brotherhood.
