In Killing Floor 3, players are offered an extensive range of customization possibilities for their weapons, allowing them to wage war against the Zeds more effectively than ever before. Tripwire Interactive has devoted significant effort into crafting each gun to deliver a satisfying shooting experience, thereby enhancing the gameplay loop in Killing Floor 3, making it as engrossing and hard-to-put-down as possible.
The universe of Killing Floor 3 has advanced significantly, as the follow-up is set in the year 2091, which is approximately 70 years after the occurrences of Killing Floor 2. The Zeds have grown even more menacing, but so have the survivors. In the forthcoming first-person action/horror shooter, players possess a wide array of weapons to shield themselves, and for the very first time in the series, there are additional options for manipulating weaponry. Recently, Game Rant had a conversation with KF3’s lead combat designer Bill Munk regarding the integration of weapon mods and customization.
How Tripwire Interactive Is Approaching Weapon Modifications and Customization in Killing Floor 3
Building and Customizing Your Weapon
Munk shared with Game Rant that players can personally tailor their weapon configurations, adding names, distinctive appearances, and even charms. For instance, in “Killing Floor 3”, one could adorn a weapon with a miniature Clot head as a charm. This customization feature is likely to excite many fans. What’s more, players will be able to alter a gun’s performance through modifications, as Munk described.
Our goal was to make users feel as though they could tailor a weapon uniquely their own. As you eliminate Zeds, you’ll gradually gather blueprints for various weapons. Additionally, you’ll find spy cameras, terminals, and other items that provide components, which you can use to craft modifications. We offer more than 180 distinct mods that can be applied to weapons, altering their characteristics, power levels, and functionality. Essentially, you can customize your weapon to fit your preferred play style.
In relation to customization, Munk pointed out that modifications (mods) come with a cost, implying that players in Killing Floor 3 might want to take into account the weapon’s price when starting a game. Essentially, if a player aims to obtain a strong early-wave weapon, they should factor in the amount of money they initially receive during an operation and adjust their strategy accordingly. Nevertheless, as players progress and level up, their initial operational budget will grow, enabling them to acquire more powerful weapons from the get-go.
Acquiring the Perfect Stats
In the context of discussing weapon enhancements, Munk emphasized that they’re not just surface-level changes. Once players gain the skill to modify their weapons, they’ll find it beneficial to improve the modification itself, alongside improving their character’s expertise. This will empower survivors in Killing Floor 3 to effectively fend off swarms of Zeds as Munk described.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that each mod you acquire comes with a schematic, allowing you to craft it yourself! You can enhance this mod up to three times, requiring resources earned through gameplay. Once you reach the maximum level, a unique bonus stat activates. We’ve created numerous mods, and the specific stat activated on yours is chosen at random. If the stat doesn’t fit your strategy, don’t worry – you can always dismantle it. For min-maxers like myself, this mod system offers endless possibilities!
Munk additionally commented that the team has created numerous modifications (mods) and haven’t had a chance to fully explore them all due to their sheer number. He anticipates that gamers will discover unique combinations of these mods, and some of these combinations might lead to unforeseen results. Since the challenging levels in Killing Floor 3 are designed to be stressful, players may need to think creatively to stay alive.
