Summary
- Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 developer Warhorse revealed that it went out and bought star map data of early summer in 1403 to give players a historically accurate night sky.
- This was done with the hope that players would navigate with the stars, which Warhorse explains will be very helpful in the game’s upcoming Hardcore mode.
Deliverance 2 is a role-playing game that focuses on challenging you severely and forcing you to survive on your own. Compared to other games within its category, this one is exceptionally brutal, and moving around the Kingdom of Bohemia can sometimes be laborious.
While some of you enjoy a challenge, there are individuals who think the game should be more difficult, leading to the creation of a ‘Hardcore Mode’ by developers Warhorse Studios. This mode allows players to significantly boost the game’s difficulty level, as demonstrated in a developer livestream earlier this week. The team also showcased some amusing and unusual penalties that players can impose on themselves.
One captivating feature of Hardcore Mode lies in the absence of navigation aids. You’ll find yourself without a compass, and your location on the map will no longer be visible to you. Instead, you’ll need to resort to old-fashioned methods of navigating, like communicating with others and even relying on celestial bodies for guidance.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Can Be Navigated With Just The Stars
It’s common knowledge that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, but Warhorse took things a step further by providing players with a means to navigate at night. During a stream and later on Twitter, Warhorse PR Manager Tobias Stolz-Zwilling revealed that they purchased star map data from early summer 1403 to create as realistic a night sky as possible for the game.
If you are familiar with constellations and star maps, you’ll likely be able to navigate through the Kingdom of Bohemia at night just by looking up. This could prove quite beneficial in Hardcore Mode, especially since I struggle with even basic maps under normal circumstances.
Regardless of the choice, it promises an exciting test when Hardcore Mode eventually launches, which is expected around mid-April. However, before that, a significant update with essential modifications will roll out first. This patch includes a minor feature where you can customize your hairstyle and beard at the barbershop, as well as the elimination of the ‘Hold W’ tutorial. These changes are scheduled for mid-March, so fans won’t have to wait long!
