Want to know about the cool gadgets in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight? They’re essential to the game, changing how each character battles enemies, figures out puzzles, and gets around Gotham City.
For information on other core systems, see our LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight guide hub.
How Gadgets Work in LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight
Each character you can play as in LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has special gadgets they use in fights, to solve puzzles, and to explore Gotham City. These gadgets make each character feel different and define how they’re played.
You can use gadgets by pressing the R2 or RT button. These gadgets can be upgraded and customized at the Batcave as you progress and unlock new abilities for each character.
Character Gadgets & Known Upgrades
Back at the Batcave, you can improve each character’s gadgets, making them stronger or adding new abilities. While we don’t know everything about the gadgets and upgrades yet, previews and information from the developers have shown us a few examples.
Batman
- Batarang
- Batarang Combo: Increases the amount of Batarangs that Batman can hold at once.
- Concussive Batarang: These Batarangs stick to enemies before emitting a big concussive blast.
- Batclaw
- Focus Slam: Allows Batman to swing enemies around in a circle before slamming them down.
Robin
- Line Launcher
Jim Gordon
- Foam Sprayer
- Goop Trail: Foam zorbs leave a trail of goop blobs behind as they roll, leaving sticky traps for other nearby enemies.
Catwoman
- Whip
- Call Kitty
- Distract: These Kittens can distract nearby enemies and create an opening to sneak past them.
Other Playable Characters
So, besides Batman, you can play as Nightwing, Batgirl, and Talia al Ghul, and they all get cool gadgets you can upgrade too. We haven’t seen everything they can do yet, but we know Batgirl’s all about hacking and using drones. And Nightwing? His gear packs a serious electric punch!
How Gadgets Shape Gameplay
Gadgets aren’t limited to just one use; they’re versatile tools that adapt to different situations. Take Jim Gordon’s foam sprayer – it can both subdue opponents and help fix mechanical puzzles. Similarly, Batman’s Batarang can either stun enemies during a fight or create a diversion for a stealthy approach.
Players can use each gadget in unique ways while fighting, solving puzzles, and exploring Gotham City, adapting to whatever challenges they face.
How Gadgets Connect to Character Progression
Improving your gadgets is a key way to make your characters stronger in the game. You can use the Workbench in the Batcave to unlock upgrades for each character, boosting their gadgets’ power and adding new features. These upgrades need WayneTech Chips, which you can find while exploring the open world and completing story missions.
What’s Still Unknown About Gadgets
While the importance of gadgets is clear, there are still some unknowns about the system:
- All the specific gadgets that are available
- Exactly how all the gadgets can be changed through upgrades
- If it is possible to unlock all gadget upgrades in a single playthrough
