Some Xbox players are getting to play LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight ahead of its official release. Announced in August 2025, the game is generating a lot of excitement and could be a major step forward for both the LEGO and Batman video game series. It seems copies of the game have been accidentally released, allowing a few lucky fans to start playing early.
Despite the typical issues with game development, Legacy of the Dark Knight is launching a week earlier than planned, two months before its initial release. With mostly positive news surrounding its development, the new LEGO Batman game seemed poised for a successful launch. However, just weeks before the May 22, 2026 release date, TT Games and Warner Bros. experienced a minor setback, which may be good news for some players.
Some LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Pre-Orders Are Already Playable
A Reddit user named Dramatic-Track-9935 discovered they could download and play LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight after pre-ordering it from Walmart. The game was apparently available instantly, even though it wasn’t scheduled to release for another two weeks. Many others have since confirmed they were able to exploit the same issue. This comes after TT Games announced the game was finished and ready for distribution, so it’s good to hear it’s running smoothly, but the early access is definitely an unexpected glitch.

Someone who downloaded the leaked game, Legacy of the Dark Knight, reported that it prompted them to download an update. This update is probably from TT Games to block access to the game, meaning they’ve likely fixed the leak. Players who already have the game will probably need to play offline until the official release. While these early players might not be able to use all of the game’s features right away, most people would consider that a reasonable compromise.
This problem with early access to Legacy of the Dark Knight seems to only affect those who pre-ordered the standard digital version from Walmart. It’s unknown if the same trick worked on other platforms or if it still works now, as some players are seeing a required update. However, players who purchased the Deluxe Edition already have legitimate early access – a full 72 hours – directly from the game developers, so there’s no need to resort to workarounds like disconnecting consoles.

Several games have had early leaks recently. First, details about Forza Horizon 6 appeared in an unencrypted Steam update, allowing players to quickly access a playable version. Now, LEGO Batman has also leaked ahead of schedule. While these leaks are unfortunate, fans waiting for the official releases won’t have to wait much longer.
