Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza: Bang! Bang! Batter Guide

While navigating the perilous waters of Hawaii with Captain Majima and his Goro Pirates, they’ll inevitably seek a respite to unwind and indulge in leisure activities, as they take a break from their daily routine of fighting pirates and crooks.

In line with all titles in the Yakuza series, Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza offers an array of mini-games for you to enjoy, and by excelling in these activities, you can accumulate points that can be spent on valuable in-game perks.

The phrase ‘Bang! Bang! Batter’ follows suit with the baseball mini-games seen across the series. It might ring a bell, as a similar game mode was featured in Yakuza: Like A Dragon. In this game, as Majima, you aim to hit the least cannonballs possible to explode barrels.

Location & Overview

The Bang Bang Batter Center can be found on the western part of Madlantis, a location first mentioned in Chapter 2. It’s situated close to the Dunghill bar.

In these two settings, you’ll find yourself competing: ‘Big Bang Bang’ and ‘Endless Bang Bang.’ Regardless of which one you choose, your objective remains the same: aim to amass the highest score using the minimum number of cannonballs.

  • In Big Bang Bang, you go through multiple stages of explosive barrels and break the padlock to the treasure chest hidden behind them. You’re given, at most, five cannonballs. Costs $100 to play.
  • In Endless Bang Bang, however, you’re given a maximum of ten cannonballs, and an endless wave of barrels spawn to replace the ones you’ve destroyed. Costs $500 to play.

Velocities

While you’re engaged in play, an NPC might ignite a fuse on a cannon, causing it to fire at varying angles. This action serves as a clue about the speed at which the cannonball approaches you.

The more vertically a cannonball is launched, the less its speed will be. This speed can vary greatly, from extremely slow where it might take around three seconds before striking a target, to incredibly fast where you’ll need to swing almost instantly after the cannon is fired.

The circular blue marker in the center of your screen serves as a helpful visual clue since it decreases in size proportionally as the ball approaches it.

Additionally, you’ll find a signal – pay attention to the sound of a whoosh. It’s at this point you should take action.

Special Swing

Additionally, you possess a unique one-time use of the “Special Swing” skill. This skill momentarily freezes time when the cannonball is nearby, significantly reducing the chances of missing your target.

In addition to its special function, the Swing ability demolishes both barrels and their locking mechanisms. But remember, this power can only be employed once in each game.

Immediately, this mini-game introduces you to the fundamental aspects of the game: Aim your shots at the red barrels to create a powerful chain reaction of explosions.

Or more concisely: This mini-game teaches you the basics while allowing you to trigger an explosive chain reaction by hitting red barrels with your shots.

Red barrels explode in a 3×3 square, and can set off any other red barrels caught in the explosion.

Here are the tips for each stage:

  1. Aim exclusively for the lines of red barrels.
  2. Strike the center of the right side and the perimeter of the square on the left.
  3. Strike the center barrels.

At this phase, you’ll acquire knowledge about the upcoming fundamental part of Bang! Bang! Batter. The missile boxes can aim towards any of the four cardinal directions: upward, downward, to the left, or to the right.

When demolished, these missile containers obliterate everything within their line of sight. They enhance your capability to set off successive explosions from considerable distances, and in an optimal arrangement, a single cannonball can activate several missile containers simultaneously.

When mastering the aim of your cannonballs, strive to align the missile box with as many barrels as possible; if the box is pointed to the left, it should be on the far right side, and conversely, if the box is pointed to the right, it should be on the far left side.

Here are the tips for each stage:

  1. Strike the explosive barrels instead of the missile boxes.
  2. Same as tip number 1.
  3. Strike any of the explosive barrels. This will trigger a chain reaction that will wipe out the other side.
  4. This time, strike the missile boxes at the upper leftmost and lower rightmost corners.

As a passionate player, I’ve learned here how to strategically position my shots to set off a chain reaction. Don’t forget, the red barrels explode not only where they are but also within their surrounding square area, so even those diagonally positioned will be affected too.

It’s ideal to have exactly two cannonballs per stage, one for loading the barrels and another for securing the padlock. Aim to find the right balance when preparing your shots.

Here’s the pattern for each stage, along with tips:

  1. Strike any explosive barrel.
  2. Strike the uppermost missile box.
  3. Strike the missile box in the top left corner.
  4. Strike any explosive barrel.
  5. Aim between the two lines of missile boxes. You should be able to hit both at the same time.

This is the culmination of everything you’ve learned in the previous levels of Bang! Bang! Batter.

By now, you should be well-versed on when to strike and where to aim. Stay alert, calm, and always pay attention to the direction of the incoming cannonball.

Here are the tips for each stage.

  1. (From the top) Strike the second line of red barrels, which will connect the first and third lines of red barrels. Do the same with the fourth line. If you do this right, there should be three lines of red barrels, allowing you to blow everything up.
  2. You’ll see four squares of red barrels. Hit any red barrel on the top left, which will destroy the bottom left. Then, hit the bottom right, which will destroy the top right.
  3. Author’s note: This one is the toughest, as there are no clear paths. There’s no shame in using Special Swing here. If you’re trying to just clear this level, then prioritize getting as many barrels down and focus on the padlock.
  4. Strike the left side, then right, then there should be enough to destroy the middle.
  5. Hit the missile box at the top left corner.
  6. Hit the missile box at the bottom right.

In this setting, adding two bonus items is implemented. One of these items restores your Special Swing gauge, whereas the other refills a single cannonball.

Utilize all knowledge gained from earlier stages and experiment with the endless mode. Focus on destroying the lower sections of the walls first, since they tend to uncover more barrels more efficiently.

The more explosions you chain, the more new barrels come your way.

If you find that there aren’t many options for connecting the red barrels, don’t hesitate to use your Special Swing. This move effectively allows you to start anew with a fresh setup.
