In every installment of the Yakuza series, the Amon gang has earned a reputation for having some of the toughest secret battles to face, whether it’s going toe-to-toe with Kiryu in individual confrontations or engaging in intense multi-enemy skirmishes as showcased in Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 5.
In the brand new game titled “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza“, the Amon clan reappears, this time instigating conflict with the Goro Pirates. The interesting twist is that you need to defeat them in two distinct battles – first on their ship, and then engage in a duel against Taiyo Amon.
Fortunately, using the comprehensive guide I’ve created, I’ll walk you through each step meticulously to conquer these upcoming challenges and claim their prizes. With a bit of luck, we might even secure the prestigious Platinum Trophy, just as I managed to do at the end.
To participate in the thrilling showdown with the Amon Pirates, known as the Ultimate Pirate Crew Showdown, it is essential that you have already conquered all significant battles within each of the four primary categories at the Madlantis Coliseum.
How To Prepare Against The Amon Pirates
Because the initial encounter involves a naval battle, I’ve provided the specific equipment setup I employed on the Goromaru below. It’s crucial to ensure that your vessel is completely upgraded; failure to do so could result in your ship being destroyed within mere moments in this engagement.
- Cannons: For both Port and Starboard sides, I went with the Energy Cannons due to their strong burst power, but I’ve seen a friend take them down with the popular Laser Cannons, so it’s your preference between the two options.
- Machine Guns: The Super Frost Machine Gun is the recommended choice here solely because of how you can freeze the enemy ship, temporarily demobilize it, and go to town on it for some damage via your cannons.
- Crew Members: Although I used a couple of DLC crew members from the Deluxe Edition, a few of the best crew members to bring include the entire Minato Girls squad, Kaito, Higashi, Sugiura, Saejima, and the Revolve Bartender. Having a strong crew is vital since you’ll need to take on the Amon Pirates in a deck battle once their ship is out of the equation.
Rocket Launcher: We’ll be using it in between smoke bombs, but for the weapon choice, I prefer the Captain’s Meteor Launcher for its high firepower, which is excellent for dealing small chunks of damage in your moments of respite in the battle.

Regarding Majima’s final fight against Taiyo Amon, it’s often suggested that you accumulate money through bounties prior, as this will give you enough funds to optimize Majima’s health and acquire all his skills, with special emphasis on the top-tier ones I’ve compiled in a list.
Hey there! As we gear up for our next battle, remember to toss a few bottles of sake in my bag. It seems that when Majima’s in his tipsy state, it speeds up the heating of my gauge during combat – quite handy, don’t you think?
It’s advisable to stock up on numerous healing items, such as multiple Staminan Royales and their versions, given that Taiyo Amon has powerful attacks that could potentially overwhelm you. This is particularly important if you’re aiming to defeat him on the Professional setting, especially if you’re quite determined, like myself.
After finishing your preparations and making sure you’re all set, it’s time to face off against the Ultimate Pirate Crew in the Tournament of Captains, located within the Coliseum.
How To Defeat The Amon Pirates

The key to surviving against the Amon Crew’s ship is by skillfully using your boosts and drifting abilities to dodge their attacks. Be warned, they pack quite a punch if you manage to avoid them carefully.
To start off, you’ll encounter homing air missiles that you should be wary of from the beginning. If you happen to miss these on your initial try like I did, they can deal a lethal blow, so be sure to activate your boost and maneuver Goromaru aside to avoid them.

In the second major offensive, you’ll encounter mortar explosions, which detonate in a sequence of small area-of-effect bursts that you should quickly move away from when you are close. Similarly, be cautious around exploding barrels, but their locations can be unpredictable, so if possible, try to navigate between them.
To wrap up, the Amon Team particularly enjoys firing Laser Cannons to deplete Goromaru’s health, and what makes it challenging is the synergy of that with Flame Cannons. These can ignite the ship, causing a fire that necessitates switching to Deck Mode to put out the flames.
An alternative option is to designate an Additional Crew Member as the First Mate, who can offer extra fuel and smoke bomb supplies thanks to their First Mate abilities, offering a beneficial edge in combat.
Given the relentless assaults we’re facing, the best strategy appears to be a defensive one. Use the Frost Machine Gun to immobilize and stagger the enemy ship, and avoid getting too close unless you spot an opportunity, as the Amon Pirates might launch damaging attacks up-close if there’s no other choice.
As a fan, I’d say when my health is running low, I swiftly deploy a smoke bomb for cover. Meanwhile, I make split-second decisions – whether it’s unleashing a barrage of rockets to deal damage or rushing to revive my fallen comrades on the Port and Starboard sides, all while the ship is being repaired.
The Amon Pirates’ vessel boasts a total health of 10,000 points, meaning you’ll need to gradually chip away at its strength, and once you’ve managed to reduce it, that’s when you can storm the ship for a climactic battle on the deck to settle things.
Battling The Amon Pirates On The Deck

As I stand among my finest comrades, ready for the decisive showdown, the deck battle proves to be the ultimate test in numbers as we engage in a fierce confrontation against over 50 pirates of the Amon crew. Just like their legendary founders, these pirates seem to possess an arsenal of unbelievable tactics, making this battle all the more intriguing.
With Noah and Kamulop on your team, you’ll find a significant advantage as they possess robust defense mechanisms and restorative abilities.
In any similar clash scenario, concentrate on reducing your opponents’ forces, and if your Madness Gauge is already at its maximum before the fight begins, go all out and summon sharks with the Dark God’s saxophone. This will unleash a tremendous impact on their deck.
Swiftly respond to the attacking Amons, as their fiery boomerangs and lightning bolts could easily wipe out your team if you don’t promptly restore their health using your own healing crew’s rally attack.
1. Remove any lingering vines (stranglers), make full use of your crowd-management heat weapons, and if you’ve got a strong, fully-upgraded boarding team with you, this battle should come to an end rather swiftly.
OR
2. Get rid of the last of those vines (stranglers), deploy your crowd-control heat devices effectively, and provided that you have a powerful, top-tier boarding squad by your side, this conflict should wrap up fairly quickly.
How To Defeat Taiyo Amon

Without involving the rest of the team, Taiyo Amon challenges Majima to a decisive duel, calling it the Ultimate Captain’s Duel using the Ultimate Captain’s Showdown fight.
It would be helpful if you could fill up your Heat, Drunkenness, and Madness meters prior to the battle, though it’s not strictly required. This should provide you with some added confidence.
In this battle, Taiyo Amon initially employs Majima’s Sea Dog fighting technique during the initial phase, followed by a flexible interpretation of Kiryu’s Rush style for the second phase. Be mindful that he consistently initiates the fight with a Chain Hook swing from behind you to deliver a combo. To avoid this, ensure you dodge or step aside appropriately.
To effortlessly win this battle, it’s advisable to employ brief attack sequences from the Mad Dog Style and execute combo-cancels. Amon tends to retaliate swiftly with a powerful armor strike (which you can block through parrying) or dodge and launch another attack immediately.
In this battle, the crucial part comes when he enters phase 2 (his health turns gray). At this point, Amon will summon replicas of himself as doppelganger clones and homing knives that home in on you. If you’re not careful, you might not even realize what’s happened before it’s too late.
In simpler terms, when Taiyo Amon’s duplicates are up close, they can overpower you swiftly. To neutralize this, consider using one or more healing items promptly if you find yourself in such a situation.
The strategy for conquering this challenge is to generate your own Mad Dog duplicates at the same time as Taiyo, maintain enough space to dodge the homing knives, and then swiftly attack one of the clones before Taiyo rushes towards you, as I’ve shown in the video above.
It’s highly advisable to wear the Stone Ring for protection against the Amon clones, as it shields and absorbs gunfire damage effectively.
The clones are capable of absorbing attacks from their adversaries, as well as triggering summoning knives. Therefore, I strongly recommend dealing maximum damage to eliminate any of them since this will be the sole instance when Taiyo summons them.
When just you and Amon are facing off once more, he may opt for the homing knife attack. To shield yourself completely from its impact, remember to press and hold down the block button (L1/LB). From there, maintain a steady offensive while simultaneously protecting yourself, gradually reducing his health. This approach should ensure your victory.

To secure victory over Taiyo Amon, you’ll receive several prizes: 50,000 Rep points, an initial cash prize of $50,000 that may be multiplied based on the rank you earn, and the Champion’s Ring which enhances your Heat level during battle.
