Magic: The Gathering, the popular trading card game, is heavily investing in crossover events, with several exciting collaborations planned for 2026. The first of these is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set launching in March, featuring cards inspired by characters like Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, Splinter, and Shredder. Wizards of the Coast has announced more collaborations are on the way as official expansions, including sets based on Marvel Super Heroes, The Hobbit, and Star Trek. Recently, a card from the upcoming Star Trek set was leaked online, giving fans an early look at what’s to come.

A new Captain Kirk card from the upcoming Magic: The Gathering and Star Trek collaboration has been revealed. This Legendary Creature, representing Captain Kirk as a Human Officer, costs one white, one green, one blue, and one generic mana to play. When Captain Kirk enters the battlefield or attacks, he lets you search your library for either a basic land or the new Starship Enterprise card, and boosts all Spacecraft creatures with +3/+3. The card is part of the Star Trek Commander set and is expected to be the key legendary creature for a pre-constructed Commander deck.

The newly revealed Captain Kirk card offers clues about the upcoming Star Trek set for Magic: The Gathering. Because Star Trek features a lot of space travel, we can expect more cards of the new “Spacecraft Artifact” type. The card’s abilities also suggest that a card representing the Starship Enterprise will be included in Captain Kirk’s pre-constructed deck. The Magic: The Gathering and Star Trek crossover set is set to release on November 13th.
The upcoming Magic: The Gathering and Star Trek collaboration will probably be similar to the recent Edge of Eternities set. Released in August 2025, Edge of Eternities was Magic‘s attempt at a space opera, drawing inspiration from series like Star Wars. It introduced Spacecraft cards and a significant update to the Commander format, letting players use both Vehicles and Spacecraft as their Commander. The set also brought back highly sought-after “shock lands,” making these powerful dual lands playable in the Standard format again after a six-year absence.

The world of Star Trek is coming to Magic: The Gathering as the final major release of a packed year! Wizards of the Coast has already released two new sets within the Magic universe, plus a fun crossover with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and revisited the beloved worlds of Lorwyn and Strixhaven. Another in-universe set, Reality Fracture, is planned for 2026, continuing the story of the planeswalker Jace and a universe he created. With both crossovers and new stories, Magic: The Gathering players have a lot to anticipate in the coming months.
