In a stunning twist of fate, the universe, or at least MetaMask, has finally added Bitcoin support after a 10-month wait that would make a tortoise blush. 🐢💸
Ten months ago, in a moment of digital deja vu, MetaMask teased the world with the promise of Bitcoin, only to keep us waiting like a child counting down to Christmas. 🎄 But here we are, with Bitcoin now joining the ranks of supported assets from the Ethereum, Solana, Monad, and Sei blockchains in a blockchain tango. 💃🕺
“Any Bitcoin transactions you make will appear in your asset list once confirmed. Remember: Bitcoin transactions are typically slower than those on EVM or Solana networks,” MetaMask said. It’s like trying to send a message through a postal service that’s still using carrier pigeons. 🐦
The move enables users to buy BTC, swap to BTC, send and receive BTC, with users being incentivized to use the asset, with any swaps into BTC earning people MetaMask reward points. It’s the crypto equivalent of a loyalty card, but for people who think “reward points” is a euphemism for “I’m still waiting for my coffee.” ☕

Prior to this, MetaMask users could only gain exposure to BTC via wrapped versions of the asset. It’s like trying to eat a sandwich with a pair of tongs-possible, but unnecessarily complicated. 🥪
The BTC integration was first discussed back in February, with MetaMask’s Dan Finlay suggesting it would go live in the third quarter of 2025. But here we are, in December, and it’s finally here. Time to update your calendar. 🗓️
MetaMask goes from just Ethereum to multichain
Initially developed to support the Ethereum ecosystem and EVM-compatible networks, MetaMask has been gradually expanding beyond this in 2025. It’s like a toddler learning to walk-wobbly, unpredictable, but undeniably forward motion. 🚶♂️
MetaMask kicked things off with the Solana integration in May and followed that up with Sei in August and Monad in November. The firm has kept its cards close to its chest, but has indicated that more networks will be added next year. Let’s hope they don’t take 10 months to add a second. 🤞
“Bitcoin support marks the latest step in our multichain expansion, following the launch of Monad and Sei earlier this year, with more networks to come in 2026,” MetaMask said. It’s the crypto version of a “more to come” trailer, but with fewer explosions. 🎬
