As a seasoned veteran of the Atlus universe, I must say that ReFantazio has truly outdone itself with Homo Fulquilo. This boss fight is a testament to strategic thinking and proper party composition, much like my own life has been a testament to tactical decision-making and adaptability.
Refantazio offers numerous gameplay modifications that distinguish it from other prominent Atlus games. In Hard mode, adversaries are given an additional action symbol, enhancing their already boosted statistics. This results in even the minor bosses within the game becoming significantly tougher to defeat.
In the game, the initial boss serves primarily as an introduction to the Archetype system. However, players will encounter Homo Fulquilo, the first real test of their creative abilities, soon after. Although Homo Fulquilo may not seem daunting on its own, the outcome of the battle largely depends on how you strategize and prepare for the fight.
How To Prepare For Homo Fulquilo
- Protagonist – Warrior
- Strohl – Mage
- Grius – Warrior
As a gamer, I know that my Warrior character has an innate resistance to fire, which is the key element the boss uses to attack. This makes me resilient against most of the damage he dishes out. However, to really get the upper hand, I need to level up my Mage character to level 2 so that he can learn the Blizz spell. That’s the only way to exploit the boss’s weakness to ice.
For the Protagonist and Grius, having the Heat Up skill on the Warrior is extremely beneficial if you don’t already possess it and are prepared to grind for it. This is because the bonus can be combined with two Warrior Character Classes in your team. However, none of these Classes specialize in healing, so remember to pack some healing items. Although a well-executed fight against this boss should rarely call for many, you might still need them. Lastly, make sure to fully recharge your MP before challenging the boss at its full potential.
How To Beat Homo Fulquilo
Homo Fulquilo has a
weakness to ice
.
In the initial skirmish, let Strohl cast Blizz while both the protagonist and Grius hurl an Ice Chunk each. This first round is a free damage spree since all these actions will strike the enemy’s weakness, granting additional Press Turn icons to everyone, allowing another attack. Then, Strohl should follow up with another Blizz, while the Protagonist and Grius unleash Diagonal Slashes. In response, the boss will gather power on its first turn and focus on the front row. During your subsequent turn, repeat the free damage phase, but during the second round of attacks, position everyone at the back row, even though it lessens the impact of melee attacks.
The boss’s attack will only affect those in the front row and then it’ll end its turn. So, Strohl will cast Blizzard each turn, Grius will use Diagonal Slash, and the Protagonist will use healing items when necessary and also attack. If the Protagonist inflicts more damage than Grius due to his stats, they can take over Grius’s role.
Your main focus is on Strohl receiving harm, potentially falling, since the boss primarily employs widespread fire attacks. Grius and the protagonist will withstand the damage and it may take numerous rounds before they exhibit any signs of injury. Reiterate this pattern, and the boss should not endure for much longer than a few turns.
