Mina the Hollower Order: Where to Go First & How to Reach Each Area

While Mina the Hollower takes cues from Zelda, it’s a much more challenging game and doesn’t offer as much guidance to players.

After finishing the beginning part of Mina the Hollower, which serves as a tutorial, you’ll arrive in the main town of Ossex. The game doesn’t tell you exactly what to do next, but your main goal is to restore power by activating six generators located around Tenebrous Isle.

While you’re generally free to explore the six areas in any order you prefer, some are more challenging than others.

We’ve created a step-by-step guide based on the most thorough walkthrough in the Mina the Hollower manual – we’re calling this the ‘official’ path. We’ll tell you where to go first and explain exactly how to get to each area, as some, like Bone Beach and Astral Orrery, can be a little difficult to find.

What’s the Best Route for the Areas in Mina the Hollower?

For our playthrough, we visited the six areas in this order:

  1. Queensbury Crypt
  2. Nox’s Bayou
  3. Septemburg
  4. Bone Beach
  5. Coltrane Peak
  6. Astral Orrery

How to Get to Queensbury Crypt

  • To start going in the right direction towards Queensbury Crypt, leave Ossex through the eastern (right) exit to enter an area called Eastern Heath: Grassland.
  • Keep going right, and you’ll come across a bridge with spikes. Head down one map tile (south), and then go left to the next tile.
  • In the next map screen, go down and then leave from the exit on the bottom-right.
  • Head to the right exit of the next map.
  • On the next map, head up to the north exit.
  • On the next map, head out the left exit to return to the bridge. Hit the switch to remove the spikes, then return to the previous screen, and then head up (north).
  • You’ll find a save point (Underlab) here. Head out the right path, and you will end up in Mourner’s Mile, which acts as the precursor.
  • Get yourself through this next section, and you’ll find your way to Queensbury Crypt.

How to Get to Nox’s Bayou

  • From the area in front of the gates to Ossex, where there are two guards, turn left onto the next tile map.
  • Head left again.
  • On the next map, head up (north).
  • You’ll end up in Western Wilds: Occupied Bridge.
  • Head north once again.
  • Head left, breaking the red crystals with lava, then go through the southwest exit.
  • In the room with crows and puddles of water, keep heading south.
  • You’ll end up in the Backwaters: Shanty Swamp, so just keep progressing through the area, and you’ll eventually reach Nox’s Bayou.

How to Get to Septemburg

  • Head back to the beginning of Western Wilds: Occupied Bridge, northwest of Ossex (this is where we went to enter the Backwaters).
  • Go up the stairs to the big bridge in the middle of the area, then start walking to the left.
  • You’ll eventually reach the end of the bridge –jump off and then go up the stairs near the nearby wooden sign. You’ll find a path with leaves leading to the next area.
  • You’ll make it to Kindlewood: Overgrowth. Just keep progressing, and you’ll eventually make it into Septemburg. Good luck with the crows!

How to Get to Bone Beach

  • Head south out of Ossex and explore the ruined area to the southeast of where the two guards are. You’ll see those purple bounce pad things near an elevated area.
  • You need to burrow underneath the pink bounce pad, push it to the left, then against the wall, so you can hop onto it to reach the elevated area.
  • Walk to the right to find stairs leading to a door that resembles a monster’s mouth (the wall around it will be blue and sort of look like ocean waves).
  • This will take you through a mining shaft that will eventually lead you to Sandfalls: Shifting Sands, which will eventually lead you to Bone Beach.

How to Get to Coltrane Peak

As a Mina the Hollower fan, I’ve found that Coltrane Peak is actually pretty easy to reach! All you need to do is head to one of the train stations – there’s one in Ossex, for example – and use a ticket. It’s a super quick way to get there!

How to Get to Astral Orrery

Let’s tackle what’s arguably the most difficult area to reach in Mina the Hollower – the Astral Orrery. It’s so hidden, it doesn’t even appear on your map initially.

Do you recall seeing those unusual mirrors during your travels? You can reach the Astral Orrery simply by walking towards one for a few seconds. If you need a reminder of where to find them, you can enter the large mirror in the northern Ossex castle.

To open the path forward, find the small mirrors and step inside each one to flip the switches. We’ve marked the locations of the mirrors we’ve discovered so far. There’s still one hidden on Coltrane Peak, but you don’t have to find every single mirror to progress through the Astral Orrery.

  • Bone Beach: Worm’s Back – Infested Tent
  • Queensbury Crypt: Statue Head Hall – Plundered Cache
  • Septemburg: Crow Town – Farm House
  • Nox’s Bayou: Moonlit Path – Western Edge
