Monster Train is simply amazing, there’s not much more to say about it. If you’re a fan of deckbuilding roguelikes from the game Slay The Spire, or if you’re new to this specific sub-genre, Monster Train provides an unmatched blend of story, mechanics, and customization that is incredibly addictive.

For those eagerly anticipating the arrival of Monster Train 2 (disregard the Monster Train dating sim, which was a prank by the developers), it’s evident that every faction within the game has the potential to vanquish the Seraph, with or without an alliance clan, and through strategic use of powerful combos or just smart choices regarding upgrades and drafting. However, certain factions appear stronger than others, and upon comparing their effectiveness in runs and sheer power, one faction consistently outperforms the rest.

6. Wurmkin

The DLC Clan Packs A Huge Punch, But Only In The Right Circumstances

In the expansion pack for “Monster Train” titled “Last Divinity,” a new class called Wurmkin was unveiled. This addition not only includes this fresh class but also numerous new artifacts to exploit and challenging end-game content that goes beyond the usual final boss encounter, offering an even tougher battle. Players who are more inclined towards breaking the game with almost limitless combos instead of following the standard gameplay route may frequently opt for Wurmkin.

The problem lies in that these combos don’t work effectively with the Clan’s unique characteristics, and it gets even more challenging when considering their identity alongside an ally clan. Certain creatures may have too many activated echoes, while others become stronger with fewer echoes active. The new resource this Clan introduces seems unconventional, and players often view this class as either a success or a failure.

An Interesting Class That Struggles To Synergize

In the Umbra clan, there’s an intriguing system where small, black gems known as Morsels serve as a unique type of creature. These Morsels are only summoned to be consumed by more potent creatures within the Umbra. Interestingly, any creature except another Morsel can consume them, leading to potential combos on the battlefield. Unfortunately, the non-Morsel creatures in this deck, despite their eye-catching design, don’t seem to work harmoniously with creatures from other clans.

For fans who enjoy a touch of grimness in their card games, this is an excellent choice. However, it’s disappointing that the poor synergy and use-once cards hinder this Clan, even though its theme is strong.

4. Awoken

A Buff-Oriented Class That’s Perfect For Beginners

For individuals who are passionate about preserving nature (even if there’s supposedly a Hell with forests?) or emphasize on enhancing abilities and shielding, the Awoken is an excellent Clan selection, particularly when used as an ally Clan. Regrettably, this Clan, though it doesn’t actively harm any builds, doesn’t always stand out as the primary Clan. It’s straightforward to repeatedly cycle through the same few buffs, which will keep creatures robust, but won’t necessarily make them perform extraordinary feats like jumping off walls for impressive actions.

The Awoken Clan resembles majestic landmarks that their faction aims to preserve – benevolent, potent, yet somewhat unchanging. They make an excellent choice for an ally due to this trait – capable of aiding clans of any nature and remaining impactful in the spotlight, but they’re not exceptionally outstanding.

3. Stygian Guard

A Spell-Focused Clan That Can Be Quite Powerful

For all you magical practitioners, the Stygian Guard comprises creatures specialized in replicating and amplifying spells. It’s an ideal Clan for those who prefer to overpower their adversaries not through physical beings, but by unleashing a barrage of potent spells.

In Monster Train, this class may not initially show its full potential, but with some fortunate draws for Artifacts and well-timed drafts, players can repeatedly cast spells, save them until strategic moments, or even defeat bosses before they encounter any creatures. While spell-focused builds might not suit every player in Monster Train, they can become incredibly powerful once the kinks are worked out.

As a devoted cinephile immersed in the captivating world of Monster Train, I can confidently assert that the formidable Melting Remnant Clan stands unrivaled in strength, even when operating independently. These extraordinary beings possess abilities on zero or one ember cards that typically would be found only in creatures twice as potent. This remarkable feat is courtesy of their unique wicks that gradually dissolve them, limiting their ability to maintain such power consistently.

Yet, when these entities maintain their power by means of simple-to-obtain charms, beasts, or relics, there’s essentially no obstacle to their progress. Remnants of Melting also concentrate on death triggers, implying they become more formidable as their allies succumb or meet a fiery end.
