The core of My Hero Academia focuses on professional heroes and their unique abilities while on the job, but the world needed stories that explored what happens between those big battles. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes brilliantly fills that space, proving to be one of the best anime spinoffs in recent years. It expertly blends familiar elements with fresh perspectives, focusing on lesser-known vigilantes who work the streets. These heroes may not be aiming for top honors at UA or a spot alongside All Might, and that’s perfectly fine with them.
Whether the law approves or not, courageous citizens are taking it upon themselves to protect Naruhata, using their unique abilities, intelligence, and even social media to keep the streets safe. This includes some former minor criminals who’ve decided to change their ways and now use their abilities to help others. While there aren’t many officially recognized vigilantes, those who are known are remarkably clever and resourceful when it comes to fighting crime.
Leap is How Vigilantes Hop Across City Blocks
User: Pop Step
Pop Step, a hopeful idol in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, has one of the least powerful Quirks among known vigilantes. However, this doesn’t bother her much, as she’s more passionate about performing music than fighting crime. She frequently uses her Leap Quirk just to keep up with Koichi while he patrols the Naruhata area.
With Leap’s help, Pop Step can quickly jump across the city. She needs to land properly to avoid getting hurt, which has been a bit of a problem sometimes. If she practiced more, she’d be much better at getting around Naruhata, but she has other priorities at the moment.
Lizard is Weak, But Trigger Grants It Wings
User: Rapt Tokage
The My Hero Academia series features many characters with mutation-type Quirks, and we’ve seen quite a few develop their abilities at UA High. Students like Tsuyu Asui, Mezo Shoji, and Pony Tsunotori are skilled at using their Quirks in different ways. However, some vigilantes, like Rapt Tokage, aren’t as experienced. Rapt only recently gained access to Trigger, so he’s not as proficient with his Quirk compared to the mutation-type Quirk users at UA.
Rapt is a vigilante who relies on a special drug to enhance his Lizard Quirk. Normally, his Quirk isn’t very helpful, but the drug transforms him into a larger, more bestial form with wings. This allows ‘Lizard’ to fly, making it perfect for escaping threats or watching over Naruhata as a vigilante.
Ignition is a Fearsome Fire Quirk When Trigger is Used
User: Moyuru Tochi
The cast of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes gained three new members who act as vigilantes, and one of them has a Quirk related to fire. Moyuru Tochi’s Quirk, called Ignition, typically appears as a flame on his head. Like Lizard’s Quirk, Ignition isn’t very powerful on its own, but taking the Trigger drug drastically changes that.

When Moyuru activates Trigger, his Ignition Quirk becomes much more powerful and gives him a villainous appearance. Despite this, he’s now using his flames to do good and is dedicated to his work as a vigilante. While Ignition isn’t as strong as Quirks like Hellflame or Blueflame, Koichi is relieved to have this fire power fighting on the side of the heroes.
Spike Serves as a Terrifying Melee Weapon
User: Soga Kugisaki
Soga Kugisaki is a powerful vigilante in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, and one of the first allies Koichi gains. He’s an incredibly skilled fighter despite not being a student or official hero, and his Quirk, Spike, is very effective. Even without using Trigger, Spike allows him to easily take on street-level criminals.
When Trigger enhances Soga’s spiky ability, he transforms into Spike, a formidable vigilante covered in tough spikes that ward off close-range attacks. Soga is a particularly complex character; he’s a bully, but also someone who was previously mistreated because of his unusual ability. Anime fans might find themselves feeling sympathy for him, and can be reassured that he now uses Spike to help other vigilantes.
Slide and Glide Makes Vigilante Patrols a Cinch
User: Koichi Haimawari
I’ve been watching Koichi Haimawari, and while his Quirk, Slide and Glide, might not be the strongest out there, he’s really pushed its limits. It started as just a way for him to get around quickly, but it’s become so much more. Now, he uses it to patrol the city fast, but also to take down smaller criminals – either by physically knocking them over or hitting them with energy blasts from a distance.
Koichi shares a lot of similarities with Deku – both start with limited natural talent but have a strong desire to improve and are quick to find clever solutions when facing challenges. Like Deku, Koichi is a determined underdog who finds ways to overcome obstacles with ingenuity and hard work.
Bloodcurdle is a Vigilante Quirk That Ended Up a Tool For Villainy
User: Stendhal/Stain
Stendhal, also known as Stain, is unique among vigilantes in the My Hero Academia universe because his Quirk, Bloodcurdle, appeared in both the main anime and its spinoff. Bloodcurdle is a debilitating Quirk – essentially a ‘debuff’ in gaming terms – that allows Stain to paralyze opponents after consuming their blood. He obtains these blood samples by using blades during combat.
Stain is a highly skilled assassin who excels at stealth, tracking, and swordsmanship. He’s particularly dangerous in close quarters or darkness, making it nearly impossible for opponents to escape or gain an advantage. He often ambushes both heroes and villains, and continued to succeed even after professional heroes understood his tactics and goals.
