My Hero Academia has been incredibly popular over the last ten years, gaining a huge following that’s still eager for more, even though both the manga and anime have recently concluded. Although the creator, Kohei Horikoshi, hasn’t announced plans for a sequel, anime fans will get one final episode to enjoy before the series ends.
I’ve been following this anime, and it’s exciting to see all the special events happening for its 10th anniversary! The creators just announced that we’ll be getting a new episode in the next few months – a short return to the series, which is fantastic news.
My Hero Academia Anime Comes Back in Summer 2026
Great news for fans of My Hero Academia: a brand-new anime episode, “I Am a Hero Too,” is coming in Summer 2026! This special episode is being released to celebrate the series’ 10th anniversary, and it’s not a side story or filler – it’s a completely original story written by the creator, Kohei Horikoshi, making it official canon. You’ll likely be able to watch it on Crunchyroll, where all previous seasons are already available.
This upcoming episode is based on a special chapter created by the author of My Hero Academia, Horikoshi. It was originally included in a collection of series information called My Hero Academia: Ultra Age: The Final Fan Book, which came out in May 2025. The story shows Eri, who has grown a bit, visiting U.A. High School during the events of the final episode.
Eri first appeared in Chapter 128 of the manga (and episode 66 of the anime). She’s the granddaughter of the former leader of the Shie Hassakai, and her unique ability, called Rewind, lets her reverse a person’s body to an earlier condition. The Shie Hassakai took advantage of this ability. After the major conflict ended, Eri began living at the U.A. dorms under the care of Mandalay.

The release date and more information will be announced soon by the production team. Studio BONES is likely to animate the new episode, and Naomi Nakayama may return as director. This update follows the airing of Episode 170+1, “More,” which covers the final epilogue from Volume 42 of the series.
There’s Even More to My Hero Academia Anime’s 10th Anniversary
Both “More” and “I Am a Hero Too” are part of the ongoing celebration of My Hero Academia, but there’s much more to come for the anime’s 10th anniversary. In Japan, fans can look forward to exclusive merchandise, special artwork, partnerships with anime stores like Animate—including giveaways and a themed menu at Animate Cafe—and various events. Some of these surprises will also be available for fans outside of Japan.
The concert series My Hero Academia In Concert is coming to the US, Europe, and the UK between September and October 2026. Fans can look forward to hearing popular songs from the show, including “You Can Be a Hero,” performed live.
With May still underway, we can expect even more news to come. There will likely be additional promotional events in Japan before the new special episode airs, and maybe even a surprise announcement afterward. Given that the episode features a hero who embodies the next generation, it’s exciting to imagine what the creators have planned for the future.
You can now watch My Hero Academia—including all the movies, spin-offs, and special episodes—on Crunchyroll, with both subtitles and English dubbing.
