The Pro Heroes in My Hero Academia constantly face life-or-death situations whenever they fight. This danger is usually caused by Villains, who are willing to use their powers, called Quirks, to harm others. While Villains often have incredibly powerful Quirks, they haven’t killed many Pro Heroes throughout the series. However, a few strong heroes have fallen in battle against them.
Many of the Pro Heroes who died were completely destroyed, leaving no remains for a funeral. Others suffered fatal physical injuries. While some of these Heroes weren’t well-known, several top-ranked ones also fell in battle, including a former No. 1 Hero. Each of them died while protecting others, and in some cases, they made the ultimate sacrifice to save lives.
7. Sand Hero: Snatch
- Real Name:Sajin Higawara
Snatch, a Pro Hero in Japan, never quite made it into the top 20 most popular heroes. This is likely because he spent most of his career working security for the Police Force. Even though he wasn’t widely known, Snatch was incredibly strong. He was specifically chosen to protect Kai Chisaki, a dangerous Yakuza leader with the powerful and destructive Overhaul Quirk, as seen in My Hero Academia.
Snatch’s Quirk allowed him to turn the top part of his body into sand, but this ability ultimately contributed to his death. During the League of Villains’ attack on the police, Snatch bravely fought against Tomura, Dabi, and Mr. Compress simultaneously. He managed to defend against Tomura’s Decay and even withstand Dabi’s flames. However, while engaged with Dabi, Mr. Compress trapped the upper half of Snatch’s body inside a marble, also containing some of Dabi’s fire. With only the lower half of his body remaining and surrounded by intense flames, Snatch probably died very quickly.
6. R-Rated Hero: Midnight
- Real Name: Nemuri Kayama
Midnight was a popular character known for her appearance and playful personality. She taught Modern Hero Art History at U.A. High School and was well-liked by her students. Though she didn’t appear on screen often, by season 6 of the anime, Midnight had become a fan favorite. Her Quirk, Somnambulist, allowed her to put people to sleep with a special scent, and she was a capable fighter, using a whip and fans in battle.
Midnight was killed during the battle against the Paranormal Liberation Front. She bravely fought several villains and joined other heroes in trying to stop Gigantomachia. While airborne, Mr. Compress attacked her group with building fragments, causing her to fall. Though critically injured, she continued to fight before ultimately succumbing to her injuries. It was particularly heartbreaking that her students were the ones who discovered her body.
5. Eye-Gun Hero: X-Less
- Real Name: Unknown
X-Less wasn’t one of the most famous or powerful Pro Heroes, but he still joined Endeavor’s team during the raid on Jaku Hospital. His Quirk allowed him to fire powerful laser beams from his right eye. These lasers were great at destroying robots and could even temporarily injure a particularly strong enemy like a High-End Nomu.
During the attack on Jaku Hospital, Tomura Shigaraki was almost killed and lay weakened in a pool of fluid. However, when X-Less accidentally damaged a nearby machine, an electrical surge unexpectedly revived him. X-Less immediately tried to finish him off, but Tomura was faster. He grabbed X-Less’s face, and his Decay Quirk quickly disintegrated him into dust. As a final act of disrespect, Tomura then took X-Less’s cape and wore it himself.
4. Sir Nighteye
- Real Name: Mirai Sasaki
Sir Nighteye was a crucial support figure in My Hero Academia, working alongside All Might to help him become the Symbol of Hope by providing strategic planning and intelligence. He was a highly skilled trainer, notably guiding Lemillion to become Japan’s top hero and mentoring Izuku Midoriya, the series’ main character, who is destined to become the No. 4 Hero. Sir Nighteye’s unique Quirk, Foresight, allowed him to see the future of others, giving him a significant advantage in close combat.
Sir Nighteye was killed in battle against Kai Chisaki during the Shie Hassaikai Arc. He initially evaded Kai’s attacks using his Foresight ability, but after it failed, Kai impaled him with spikes created by his Overhaul Quirk. Though Sir Nighteye made it to the hospital, he sadly died from his injuries following an emotional farewell with All Might and Lemillion.
3. Shield Hero: Crust
- Real Name: Unknown
During the intense Paranormal Liberation War, the hero Crust earned a remarkable No. 6 ranking. This was especially noteworthy because he was known for being sensitive and his abilities were mainly focused on defense. His Quirk allowed him to create incredibly strong, hexagonal shields from his body, which he used to protect both himself and others. These shields could even withstand attacks from powerful enemies like High-End Nomu, and Crust could cleverly transform them into weapons for close combat or launch them at opponents.
Crust was a truly heroic and selfless individual, remaining so until his final moments. He bravely participated in the raid on Jaku Hospital, fighting his way to the laboratory where Tomura Shigaraki and the High-End Nomus were held. When Shigaraki saw the approaching heroes, he unleashed his incredibly powerful Decay quirk, attempting to destroy them all. This demonstrated just how devastatingly strong Decay had become. Seeing that Eraser Head was in danger, Crust immediately sacrificed himself, intercepting the attack and shielding him. He faced his fate with no regrets, disintegrating with a smile and a thumbs-up to reassure his friend.
2. Nana Shimura
- Real Name: Nana Shimura
Nana Shimura was Tomura Shigaraki’s grandmother and the seventh person to wield the One For All Quirk. While her exact position isn’t known, she was a formidable fighter, enhanced by One For All’s incredible strength, speed, reflexes, and endurance. Although she couldn’t access the Quirks of previous One For All users, she also had her own ability called Float, which let her levitate.
All For One relentlessly pursued Nana, having already killed six previous One For All users. During All Might’s last year as a student, Nana battled All For One with the help of a young All Might and Gran Torino, but he was too strong. Nana sacrificed herself to allow Gran Torino to get All Might to safety, and All For One ultimately killed her. Fortunately, she managed to pass on her Quirk, One For All, to All Might before she died.
1. Star And Stripe
- Real Name: Cathleen Bate
Star and Stripe was the top-ranked Pro Hero in the United States throughout the main My Hero Academia story. When she was young, All Might saved her life, inspiring her to become a hero herself. She was powerful enough to be seen as a threat by the villain All For One. Her Quirk, New Order, is considered by many to be the strongest ability that alters reality; she could change the properties of anything—living or not—simply by touching it.
After the devastating Paranormal Liberation War left Japan’s hero system in ruins, Star and Stripe arrived with fighter jets to try and restore order. She engaged Tomura in an aerial fight, and despite being on the verge of victory, his incredible healing ability kept him in the battle. During the fight, Star and Stripe briefly paused to protect a friend, which allowed Tomura to grab her face and activate his Decay Quirk. While she was destroyed by the attack, she managed to destroy a large number of the Quirks Tomura had been storing.
