The recent premiere of My Hero Academia More was a hit with fans. Even though it was designed as a final ending to the series, viewers are hoping for more content. This special episode, titled ‘170+1’, which aired on May 2nd, brought My Hero Academia back into the spotlight.
The premiere of My Hero Academia was a huge success with Japanese fans, bringing back all the excitement and joy they felt months ago. Many were even moved to tears seeing the characters they love return. The overall feeling is strong: fans don’t want the series to end!
The My Hero Academia Anime’s 10th Anniversary
The anime series My Hero Academia premiered in 2016, so it will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2026. To mark this milestone, work has started on adapting the “More” chapter – a fan-favorite from volume 42 of the original manga. Many readers considered it one of the best chapters ever, making an anime adaptation inevitable.
The new movie, My Hero Academia: More, has been a massive hit with fans around the world. In Japan, viewers are passionately hoping for a continuation of the story and a sequel. Many are sharing their excitement online and requesting a follow-up that explores the adult lives of Izuku and Ochaco. But will their wish come true?
A Short Film, ‘I Am a Hero Too’, Is Already On the Way
A new My Hero Academia project is coming, though it’s not the continuation of the main story fans are hoping for. This project is a short film called I Am a Hero Too, focusing on the character Eri. The story is based on a manga created by My Hero Academia‘s author, Kohei Horikoshi, and originally appeared in the My Hero Academia: Ultra Age fan book, making it a lesser-known part of the series.
This manga, released in December 2024, features a beloved character returning – Eri. Fans will remember Eri from the anime’s fourth season, where Deku rescued her in a particularly memorable episode. This new story shows Eri as a high school student, and like another recent story called ‘More’, it’s set after the main series has ended.
I haven’t heard when it’s coming out yet, but what I do know is that it’s just going to be a short film. Still, a lot of people are hoping they’ll make a full series with Eri as the main character.
Fans Are Asking For a True Sequel
Japanese fans are split on what they want to see next from the creator of the popular manga: some hope for a direct sequel continuing Deku’s story, while others would prefer a series centered around the character Eri. Currently, no new projects have been officially announced. It’s also worth remembering that the author, Kohei Horikoshi, is taking a well-deserved break after finishing the original manga, and he has other work planned as well.
A continuation of the story isn’t out of the question. Just like Akira Toriyama returned to work on Dragon Ball Z after Dragon Ball finished, there’s been a gap between My Hero Academia and the My Hero Academia More episode that has allowed the characters to evolve. Because of this, fans are hopeful that these characters will appear in future installments.
Considering how well My Hero Academia More performed and the popularity of its characters in Japan, we can likely expect to see more from the series in the future. Before that happens, the premiere of I Am a Hero Too will probably come first. The original manga continues to sell very well in Japan and is readily available in stores. My Hero Academia has consistently been a successful franchise, and it’s poised to remain popular for years to come. As with any long-running series, fan support – both in Japan and internationally – will be key. If you’re interested in watching My Hero Academia More, it’s currently available on Crunchyroll. Be prepared to feel emotional – it’s a moving story that grabs you right away.
