Throughout the Naruto series, Sasuke Uchiha steadily grew into an incredibly powerful fighter. He had a head start due to his Uchiha clan’s training, his intelligence, and even his ability to work with others, despite often preferring to act alone. Sasuke’s strength increased as he learned new techniques, including the Sharingan, Chidori, Rinnegan, and ultimately mastered the complete Susanoo.
By the end of Naruto Shippuden, Sasuke had become incredibly powerful – almost like a combination of several top-tier ninjas. However, a handful of characters in the Naruto universe still had a chance to win against him if they fought at their absolute best, and maybe with a bit of luck. Some ninjas simply had advantages over Sasuke, whether through more powerful techniques, greater energy reserves, or more effective strategies to achieve victory.

Madara Was the True Endgame Threat in Naruto Shippuden
By the end of the Fourth Great Shinobi War, very few characters in the Naruto anime could realistically beat Sasuke Uchiha at his strongest. He had mastered all the key ninja skills – powerful hand-to-hand combat, illusion techniques, advanced jutsu, and strategic thinking. Sasuke was incredibly versatile, possessing abilities like two different dojutsu and powers inherited from Indra, making him the envy of most Uchiha… except for one.
Even incredibly skilled Uchiha like Shishui and Itachi couldn’t beat him at his peak, but Madara Uchiha absolutely could. Despite how powerful Sasuke eventually became, Madara is still stronger, and in many of the same ways. Both Sasuke and Madara master the Mangekyo Sharingan and Rinnegan, and both are skilled in Senjutsu. Madara also possesses Wood Release, a technique from Hashirama Senju, and the immense power of the Ten-Tails. He was once the host of the Ten-Tails, and as longtime Naruto fans know, that’s a level of power Sasuke can’t match. In a fight between them, Sasuke would definitely lose.

Sasuke Was Lucky Team 7 Had a Way to Seal Her
Throughout the Naruto series, the Otsutsuki clan stands out as exceptionally powerful. This became even clearer in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations with the introduction of characters like Isshiki and Momoshiki. Both adult Naruto and Sasuke struggle against members of this incredibly strong clan, a challenge that was also apparent during the Fourth Great Shinobi War in Naruto Shippuden.
Kaguya Otsutsuki ultimately became the biggest threat Team 7 faced, surpassing even Madara. They weren’t able to truly defeat her, only contain her. No one ninja stood a chance against Kaguya, especially considering she’s the source of all chakra – she was essentially a godlike being with incredibly powerful abilities, easily overwhelming someone like Sasuke. While Sasuke survived due to story needs, a fair fight would have ended with him losing.

Throughout the Naruto series, the fights between Naruto and Sasuke were always incredibly close. The story often balanced their power levels to keep their rivalry strong and their connection believable. By the end, both were exceptionally powerful ninjas – Naruto with his unique Senjutsu, the power of the Nine-Tailed Fox, and massive Rasengan attacks. But if they truly fought to the finish at their strongest, Naruto would likely win, though it would be a very close battle.

He also possesses a strong will and never-give-up attitude that pushes him forward. As a typical hero in his genre, this allows him to triumph even when things look impossible. And, in the Boruto series, he has access to Baryon Mode – a powerful but physically draining technique that even allowed him to defeat Sasuke.

Hagoromo Has the Ten-Tails and the Six Paths Senjutsu
Hagoromo is one of the strongest characters in Naruto history, second only to his mother, Kaguya. Like Kaguya, Hagoromo’s immense power stemmed from becoming the host for the Ten-Tails. After defeating Kaguya in her Ten-Tails form with his brother Hamura, Hagoromo became the first ever jinchuriki – a human host for the powerful beast. As fans know, anyone who hosts the Ten-Tails possesses a level of power that’s simply beyond the reach of ordinary ninjas. Even powerful ninjas like Naruto and Sasuke wouldn’t stand a chance against such a force.
Luckily, neither Sasuke nor Naruto ever fought Hagoromo directly. Instead, Hagoromo guided them as a mentor, helping them learn how to seal away Kaguya during the final stages of the Fourth Great Shinobi War. Because of this, Hagoromo functions more as a helpful element in the story than a traditional fighter, and that works well. He’s on a completely different power level than even the strongest human ninjas, and his role is distinct from Sasuke’s.
