A minor update to Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC has sparked renewed optimism among players about a potential upgraded version of the game. However, as of now, there’s been no official confirmation of a new Red Dead Redemption 2 version for the latest generation of consoles.
Although Red Dead Redemption 2 first came out on older consoles in 2018, it still feels like a game that could be played on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 today. For years, there have been many rumors about a better version of the game being released for current-generation consoles, and even more evidence of an Red Dead Redemption 2 upgrade appeared a few months ago. Still, nothing official has been announced yet.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Steam Change Sparks Enhanced Version Hopes
Gamers recently spotted a change to Red Dead Redemption 2’s Steam store page description – it had been updated for the first time in years, and for no apparent reason. The update removed mentions of the game’s numerous Game of the Year awards, replacing them with a simpler summary of Red Dead Redemption 2’s storyline. This unexpected change immediately caught the attention of the RDR2 community, as the new description reads more like something you’d see for a recently released game, instead of a well-respected, critically-acclaimed classic.
On Reddit, user esketitethan started a discussion where fans expressed their anticipation for a potentially improved Red Dead Redemption 2 for newer consoles. Some people said they’d hold off on getting too enthusiastic until there was official confirmation, while others were eager to see how the game could perform on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5. It’s possible this recent listing change won’t amount to anything, but it’s definitely an unusual situation.
It’s also important to keep in mind that Rockstar Games is currently focused on completing Grand Theft Auto 6, and it’s uncertain how a possible improved version of Red Dead Redemption 2 would impact that development. Rockstar wouldn’t want anything to overshadow the excitement for Grand Theft Auto 6, so it’s improbable they’ll release anything connected to RDR2 before the first six months of next year. Therefore, fans will simply need to be patient and wait to see what Rockstar decides.
