New Satoshi Candidate? Chart-Topping Rapper Claims He Has Been Studying Crypto Since 2001

As an analyst with a background in both finance and hip-hop culture, I find Waka Flocka Flame’s claim of studying crypto since 2001 rather intriguing but highly unlikely. While it is true that the rapper gained mainstream success with his single “No Hands” in 2010, which predates Bitcoin’s diamond certification by three years, the timing of his supposed interest in cryptocurrencies raises some skepticism.

In a recent discussion on X Spaces, American rapper Waka Flocka Flame revealed that he had been exploring cryptocurrencies as early as 2001. He expressed that he had bided his time and was now ready to join the burgeoning crypto scene.

.@WakaFlocka just said in a space that he’s “been studying crypto since 2001”

The ludicrous claim sparked a wave of derision on social media, with some individuals playfully proposing that he could be Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious inventor of Bitcoin. Others poked fun by suggesting that perhaps he intended to discuss cryptographic encryption rather than cryptocurrencies. Joining in on the humor, Waka himself acknowledged the jest.

In 2009, the rapper gained recognition through the debut of his hit single “O Let’s Do It,” reaching a peak position of 62 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

On October 31, 2008, Satoshi made history by releasing the Bitcoin whitepaper. This groundbreaking document opened the door to the emergence of the modern cryptocurrency sector.

Back in 2010, I was just getting started with my crypto investments and listening to music, when Waka dropped his game-changing hit “No Hands.” This rap masterpiece went on to become one of the biggest success stories in hip hop history. Fast forward to July 2023, and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) officially recognized its enduring popularity with a prestigious diamond certification.

As a researcher, I’ve discovered that the rapper continued to put out various songs which gained moderate success following his initial breakthrough hits. Some of these tracks featured collaborations with prominent artists such as Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Flo Rida. However, my investigation shows that the rapper, Waka Flocka Flame, went absent from Billboard charts in the year 2012 – a year after Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic creator of Bitcoin, vanished from the digital landscape.

Waka has a considerable background in the cryptocurrency sphere. Previously, there have been allegations that he engaged in undeclared promotional activities for Ethereum as far back as 2012.

Now, he has become the latest irrelevant hip-hop artist to jump on the celebrity meme coin craze.

As a researcher studying trends in pop culture and the world of cryptocurrencies, last month marked an intriguing turn of events. Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, whose commercial success in the music industry had waned for years, astonishingly resurfaced as a prominent figure in the meme coin market. Her creation, Mother Iggy (MOTHER), saw its market cap soar to an astounding quarter of a billion dollars.
