2B and 9S persist in their relentless attack against both machine lifeforms and their own kind. While 2B engages on the battlefront alongside other B-type models, an intriguing scene of the moon is shown earlier, revealing 10H lying unresponsive. This Healer-type android, from the game NieR: Re[in]carnation, is in charge of preserving humanity’s remaining memories and genetic data on the moon. Despite being informed about humanity’s extinction prior to the alien invasion and the rise of machine lifeforms, YoRHa soldiers continue their fight, aiming to overcome their adversaries; however, it appears that their quest was destined for failure since its inception.
Death is a Constant
As we’ve grown fond of these characters, they start disappearing one by one. 9S goes to inform 2B about the situation, while she and the others engage in combat against the machines. However, these machines are not just hostile; they also disseminate a virus that swiftly infects nearby androids. This suggests not only an internal backdoor virus, as 9S suspected, but also an external one. In a moment of carelessness, one of 2B’s infected companions leans in to kiss her, instantly spreading the virus. Fortunately, 9S manages to cure 2B before it spreads further. But when all other options fail, the two use their black boxes to trigger self-destruct sequences and eliminate their enemies along with them. For your reference, The Logic Virus, despite its lethality, cannot be transmitted through ordinary physical contact.
As the truth unfolds, it’s clear that things were not as they seemed when it’s disclosed that Commander White, under the impression that YoRHa was on the verge of victory, had been given misleading information. It’s at this point we understand that this wasn’t a regular back-door virus, but an inside job – a hack. This is underscored by a tense and short-lived skirmish with 6O, which leaves us no choice but to depart from The Bunker along with Commander White, who triggers self-destruct mode upon the revelation of the hack.
What is Happening?
As a follower of the captivating narrative unfolding before me, I’ve come to realize that several intriguing theories are emerging. Initially, it’s clear that humanity is no more, yet YoRHa persists in their struggle for survival. This leads me to wonder if they’re not merely fighting for existence but perhaps being manipulated by some hidden force.
a continuous cycle.
Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures
In the initial version of the game, when a player’s health points (HP) hit zero, they would reappear at The Bunker and continue from where they last were. However, once The Bunker is overtaken, this revival method is no longer an option, and losing all HP results in immediate defeat. Since 2B and 9S have the ability to respawn and carry on missions in the anime, it’s likely that, similar to the game, their lives will also be at risk.
