Nintendo aims to manufacture at least 20 million of its next-generation Switch consoles by March 2027 to keep up with anticipated demand. This plan comes after they recently raised the price of the current Switch, and sales surged by 154% following the release of the new Pokémon game, Pokopia, last month.
According to a Bloomberg report, Nintendo is planning to manufacture 20 million units of the next-generation Switch, a roughly 20% increase from their earlier projections. Analyst Serkan Toto explained to Bloomberg that Nintendo often intentionally understates initial production estimates, then exceeds them later, as seen in their recent fiscal year. This strategy minimizes risk and allows them to appear successful when they ultimately outperform expectations.
Okay, so everyone’s wondering why Nintendo’s ramping up console production before March 2027, and the big rumor is they’ve got a killer game coming later this year or early next year that’s going to make everyone want a Switch 2. Some people are betting on a brand new 3D Mario title, while others think we might finally get a remake of Ocarina of Time, or at least something new in the Zelda universe. Honestly, Mario and Zelda are Nintendo’s biggest franchises, so it makes sense they’d launch a new console with one of those!
The upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie, set to release in April 2027, is likely to increase public interest in the game series – much like the recent surge in Fallout players during Amazon’s TV show. This increased interest could drive new players to buy a Nintendo Switch 2 and explore the many Zelda games already available for the system.
Gamers can also anticipate several games from other developers. FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is coming to the Switch 2, and Bethesda’s space RPG, Starfield, might also be ported to the console. While not officially announced yet—only listed with Taiwan’s game rating board—an announcement about Starfield is expected soon.
