Unreal Engine 6 Revealed With Rocket League Visual Upgrade

Epic Games unexpectedly unveiled Unreal Engine 6 with a major update to Rocket League. The reveal happened live during the Rocket League Championship Series in Paris, with a trailer showcasing the updated game and then surprising viewers by announcing it was powered by the new engine.

Psyonix, the team behind Epic and Rocket League, hasn’t shared many details about Unreal Engine 6 and how it will improve upon Unreal Engine 5. However, a short trailer recently showed off updated visuals for Rocket League, offering players a first look at the new engine. It’s likely Epic will hold a larger event in the future to fully reveal Unreal Engine 6, much like they did with Unreal Engine 5, which included an extensive tech demo.

A lot of game developers these days are choosing Unreal Engine 5 for their projects. Popular examples include games like Black Myth: Wukong, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, The Finals, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. CD Projekt Red is also making the next Witcher game with UE5, but it’s possible they might switch to a different engine version during development.

Currently, details about Unreal Engine 6 are scarce. Epic Games is remaining quiet while people online guess about how it might influence future consoles and computer hardware.

Xbox has revealed it’s developing its next console, currently known as Project Helix, and it’s designed to combine the power of both consoles and PCs. While Sony hasn’t officially discussed the PlayStation 6, industry experts believe we might see it released by the end of 2027.

Nintendo is continuing with its established plans. Recent reports indicate they aim to manufacture at least 20 million of the new Switch 2 consoles by March 2027, even after increasing the price.
