Nintendo President Wants to ‘Enhance the Switch 2 Ownership Value’ to Make Up for Console Price Increase

Nintendo is increasing the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. Company president Shuntaro Furukawa stated they’re also focusing on making the system more valuable to owners. The Switch 2 became available in June 2025, costing $449 by itself or $499 when purchased with Mario Kart World. The bundle offered a better deal, saving customers $30 on the game.

The new Nintendo Switch 2 will cost $499 in the U.S. starting September 1, with price hikes happening in other countries as well. This follows price increases for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and many expected the Switch 2 to also become more expensive. The price change gives potential buyers a short window to purchase the console at the current, lower price.

Making Nintendo Switch 2 Worth the Price

During a recent discussion with investors, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed the recent price increase, explaining that the company is prioritizing the creation of games that offer lasting value to players. Nintendo Switch owners have several exciting titles to look forward to, including Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox, and Splatoon Raiders. Furukawa hinted at even more announcements coming soon, which is positive news for both current Switch owners and those considering a purchase before the price goes up.

Honestly, I’m so excited to see what else Nintendo has up its sleeve for 2026! Everyone’s talking about a possible remake of Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2, and if that happens, it could be huge for the system’s launch. We do know that Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is coming out before the end of the year, but they haven’t given us a specific date yet. I’m really hoping we get a Nintendo Direct in June – they usually use that month to tell us all about their plans for the rest of the year. If that happens, we’ll probably have a much clearer picture of what’s coming pretty soon. Plus, it would be great to see Nintendo really showing they’re committed to making the Switch 2 a worthwhile investment for fans like me!

The price of the new Nintendo Switch 2 is likely higher due to several things, including increased costs for components like RAM, import taxes, and global conflicts. Nintendo’s shareholders also wanted a price increase, even though the original Switch was selling well. It’s uncertain if the Switch 2 will maintain its sales momentum after the price goes up, but strong game releases should help justify the cost for many players.

The future looks bright for the Switch 2! While 2026 has a good lineup of games already, we’re starting to see what 2027 holds as well. A new Pokémon Winds and Waves game is planned for next year, though details are currently limited. Rumors also suggest a new 3D Mario game is in development, but Nintendo hasn’t said much about it. If all these games release as expected, Switch 2 owners will likely be very pleased with their purchase.
