Oh, look who’s getting sneaky—North Korea’s hackers! They’ve apparently decided that creating fake U.S. companies is the new hot thing to target cryptocurrency developers. Blocknovas LLC and Softglide LLC—sounds legit, right?—were set up in New Mexico and New York. But wait, they were actually just elaborate traps to lure in unsuspecting job seekers and hit them with malware. How thoughtful of them.
According to the ever-so-wise cybersecurity experts at Silent Push (who probably have a whole department dedicated to “figuring out how to stop evil geniuses”), the plan was to get people to apply for these totally fake jobs, only to download malware that would steal all their personal details—especially their precious wallet info. Oh, and did we mention this little stunt is connected to the infamous Lazarus Group? Yeah, the same one funded by North Korea’s Reconnaissance General Bureau. Nothing suspicious about that!

Because, you know, hacking the crypto industry is *super* strategic when you’re a rogue state looking for extra cash to fund missile development. A quick reminder that this is a big deal because crypto, as we all know, is a goldmine for the government of North Korea. No wonder they’re going all out.
The FBI, bless them, stepped in and shut down the Blocknovas domain. But don’t get too comfy, dear developers—this whole mess makes it much more likely that other scams could be lurking out there, ready to ruin your day. Can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
Silent Push is now reporting that some victims have already been hit hard. The malware does a lovely job of stealing passwords and private keys to crypto wallets. Oh, and let’s not forget—this whole operation is a violation of American sanctions that prohibit North Korea from doing anything that remotely resembles business in the U.S. But hey, who’s counting?
This is a big fat warning for all developers: it’s time to stop being so trusting and maybe, just maybe, protect yourselves from these next-gen cyber attacks. Because if North Korea is getting creative, you should be too.
