NTE: Break Gauge Guide

In the game NTE: Neverness to Everness, ‘Break’ is a combat system that works similarly to a stagger meter. Mastering how to Break enemies and bosses is essential, particularly as you progress to higher Appraiser Levels, where enemies have more health, hit harder, and become more challenging to defeat.

How Does Break Work in NTE?

Break Gauge Explained

A white line under an enemy’s health bar, called the Break Gauge, shows how close they are to being broken. Attacking them directly with basic attacks, skills, parries, or ripostes will lower this gauge. Once it’s empty, the enemy is broken.

Once the Break gauge is fully emptied, the enemy takes significant damage and becomes stunned – a state called ‘Broken’. While Broken, they’re vulnerable to extra damage, can’t move, and can’t use any abilities. This stunned state lasts about 4 to 5 seconds, and during that time, the Break gauge quickly refills.

When enemies are in the Broken state, a grey outline appears on their character model. After their Break meter refills, they recover and resume fighting.

How to Deplete the Break Gauge Quickly in NTE

Target Weaknesses

Certain powerful enemies and bosses in NTE are vulnerable to specific types of damage. You can identify these weaknesses by looking for an icon next to their health bar. If you attack them with the right type of damage, their Break gauge – the white bar under their health – will fill up much faster.

For instance, the Headless Rider is especially vulnerable to Psyche attacks. If Haniel uses her Redirect ability to inflict Psyche damage on this boss, it will quickly lose health and become vulnerable faster than usual.

Use Critical Riposte

If you successfully dodge an attack with a Critical Dodge, you can follow up with a powerful Critical Riposte by using a Basic Attack. This special attack deals significant damage to the enemy’s Break gauge. Because any character can perform a Critical Riposte, it’s usually the fastest way to break an enemy’s defenses.

Parry Attack

You can deflect attacks with a circular warning symbol in NTE by attacking right before the enemy hits you. Parrying does the most Break damage of any attack, but because you can’t do it as often as a Critical Riposte, it’s not something you can depend on constantly.

Esper Cycle: Discord

Okay, so as a fan, I’ve figured out this awesome combo! If you have characters who specialize in Chaos, Psyche, and Incantation all on the same team, you can pull off something called ‘Esper Cycle: Discord.’ Basically, if you manage to hit an enemy with both Nova and Scorch at the same time, it triggers this reaction and does a ton of damage to their Break gauge. It’s a really powerful strategy when it works!

If you want to create a strong Discord team, consider using Daffodil, Jiuyuan, Adler, and Haniel together. Daffodil is particularly effective because she deals 20% more Break damage with regular attacks. Plus, her Redirect Skill does extra Break damage when you use support skills, making her an ideal character to build a team around breaking enemy defenses.
