Old Kofun Chest Location in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In the multiple chapters of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, there are various spots to explore. Certain ones offer quick travel for players, while others pinpoint areas where they can find hidden items. Some locations also give players a chance to discover hidden chests, like Old Kofun is an instance of such places.

At first glance, the ancient Kofun might appear as just another open field. Yet, adventurers will uncover an intricate network of tunnels resembling a mine shaft, leading them into a labyrinthine cavern system. Within this subterranean expanse, treasure chests await discovery and numerous candles can be lit for guidance. Navigating the maze could lead to getting lost, prolonging the journey’s completion.

Where to Find Old Kofun in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

In the initial area of the game called Izumi Setsu, you’ll find this specific location. As you zoom in closer, you’ll discover many other spots within the game. The narrative should advance until you reach Sakai. To the east of Sakai lies Izumi Coast. Above the name Izumi Coast, you’ll see a question mark, which indicates Old Kofun. When you approach it, the marker will change, guiding you to an opening sandwiched between two rocks where you’ll need to dismount your mount. This is where you’ll find the entrance to Old Kofun.

Traversing these passages might become puzzling without careful attention. Fortunately, you’ll find numerous candles strategically placed throughout these tunnels to help players remember the path they took. After entering, players will descend a ledge. They’ll then slide down a slope into an open area that houses a chest and several candles.

This is not the chest that will complete this area, it’s not that simple.

Make your way by creeping along the space, maintaining a straight course ahead. Remember to ignite every candle you encounter, as they’ll act as guides for your return journey. Eventually, you’ll stumble upon some steps to descend. Light the candle before proceeding, then turn and move towards the northwest. You’ll notice light emanating from the left wall. Jump over the wall, ignite the candle on the other side, and continue forward.

Follow the stairs, and you’ll come across a wooden platform next to some water. Light the candle situated on this platform, followed by using your grapple to navigate over the water. Continue going straight, and you’ll encounter more stairs. To your left, there is another chest that can be plundered, while to your right, there’s a narrow passageway for further progress in your adventure. Pillaging these additional chests will prove beneficial for enhancing players’ hideouts.

Upon passing through this narrow gap, players will discover a candle lit across the room. Submerging themselves in the expansive body of water within, they must swim towards an opening on the opposite side. Once reaching the bottom, they should direct their path northeast to find stairs submerged beneath the surface. Ascending these steps will lead them out of the watery depths.

As a fan, I’d express it like this: Players will encounter another waterbody where they’ll have to swing across using their grappling hook. To reach the side doors, players should climb up and down the grapple before swinging. While this method might net them an additional chest, it’s not the one they’re after. To find the sought-after room with a floor opening for crawling through, travel southeastward instead.

Should a player find themselves in the water, they have just one elevation to ascend – it’s the same side they initially entered from. To escape, they must spin around and leapfrog (grappling) back to the opposite side using that platform as their launching point.

To reach the Old Kofun Legendary Chest, first, move towards the east and find a room containing a big stone coffin. Then, turn southwest. You’ll ascend several stairs along the way and come across a long stretch of water. Players will need to make multiple swings to get over this water body. After successfully clearing all those jumps, continue moving southwest, and you’ll notice that location getting marked on your map. This is where the Old Kofun Legendary Chest can be found.

To obtain the contents of this chest and receive your rewards in the game world of Old Kufan, simply press and hold the loot button. Keep holding it until you see a success message pop up on your screen, signaling that the chest has been successfully opened. You’ll notice your rewards displayed on the right side of your gaming interface, which includes an impressive early-game item for Naoe’s equipment set.

To exit this location, take the eastward route along the path until you reach a point marked “No Entry Yet.” To your right at that location, you’ll find some explosives for blowing open the wall. This will lead players back to their starting room initially. Players can then utilize this opening as a way to revisit the cave at a later time.
