Summary
- Many Once Human players are unhappy with the game’s high prices.
- Some users call the monetization scheme predatory.
- There are alternate ways to obtain cosmetics in the game though.
Players who are human have been vocalizing their dissatisfaction regarding the expensive price points for acquiring cosmetics in the game. The post-apocalyptic survival title, Once Human, was released last year to a generally favorable reception from both fans and critics. Known for its diverse dystopian landscapes where an alien substance called Stardust has altered lifeforms into hostile creatures, this free-to-play game is now receiving criticism from some players due to the high cost of purchasing cosmetics.
Lately, the game has been experiencing a surge of updates, presumably to gear up for the April 23 mobile launch of “Once Human”. In honor of the mobile edition, the game’s creators, Starry Studio, rewarded several fortunate players with various prizes such as Steam gift cards, AirPods, and an iPhone 16. Despite the game’s broader audience and the abundance of gifts distributed, some players remain dissatisfied over the costs associated with purchasing cosmetics for use in “Once Human”‘s hazardous settings.
Recently on Reddit, a user named jimwas1 posted about their disappointment with the expensive cosmetics in the game Once Human. They were particularly interested in the Tron Light Cycle, but its price of 15 gems equates to approximately $500 in real money. After spending around $110 on loot boxes, they received three Lightforge Gems, 87 relics, some water pump skins, a barrel, and other items. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the high cost of these cosmetics, as well as the uncertainty about what one will receive in a loot box before making a purchase.
Once Human Players Frustrated by the High Price of Cosmetics
Numerous commentators mirrored the player’s viewpoint regarding high prices, with some arguing that it has grown increasingly exploitative lately, while others voiced their discontent with the unpredictable contents of loot boxes. In Once Human, players can enjoy free gameplay, but they also have the option to purchase cosmetic items such as skins and outfits within the game.
In the game “Once Human,” you don’t always have to buy cosmetic items with real money. You can acquire these items in alternative ways as well. For instance, if players receive duplicate skins they already possess, they will earn Cosmetic Tokens. Furthermore, Cosmetic Tokens can be obtained from Butterfly’s Emissary loot crates that are purchased using Mitsuko’s Marks. These marks are earned by finishing Seasonal Goals. Lastly, cosmetics can also be unlocked by progressing through the Season Pass.
In addition to Cosmetic Tokens, players in the game Once Human can accumulate Starchrom as well, which they can use to obtain items such as cosmetics and weapons. Starchrom serves as a unique currency within the game and is linked directly to the Wish Machine, a functional facility located within a player’s territory that dispenses numerous rewards. Yet, for the finest cosmetic items, the only reliable method is still purchasing them, and the cost is often prohibitive for many players.
