As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I have witnessed countless balance updates for games, some good, some bad, and some downright disastrous. However, the upcoming balance update for Once Human has me genuinely excited. The focus on the Bounce build, one of my personal favorites, is a welcome change that will undoubtedly spice up combat encounters.
Starry Studio, the developers behind Once Human, have shared some insights into a forthcoming balance adjustment set for release on December 19th. Launched as a free-to-play open-world survival game in July 2024, Once Human swiftly gained a massive following due to its immersive gameplay, gripping narrative, and post-apocalyptic world teeming with mutated creatures. The developers of Once Human maintain an active community by regularly implementing updates, many of which stem directly from player suggestions.
Among the allures of the game Once Human , is the array of character builds offered to players, each offering a distinct combat style. For instance, the Shrapnel build unleashes immense damage without reloading and sometimes even auto-healing. Alternatively, players can opt for the Burn build, dealing damage over time with a blaze effect, which they can stack to inflict greater agony. In contrast, the Bounce build allows each bullet to potentially ricochet onto another enemy, creating delightful chain reactions that easily take down large groups.
It’s no surprise that the Bounce build is a fan favorite in the game Once Human, and Starry Studio plans to make some adjustments to it during the upcoming balance update on December 19. These changes will not only boost the area-of-effect (AOE) damage of the build but also enhance the user experience when attacking a single target.
Once Human’s Upcoming Balance Update Focuses on Bounce
Furthermore, there will be enhancements to the passive effects of certain weapons in Bounce. One of the popular sniper rifles from Once Human, the HAMR Brahminy, now has a 60% chance to activate Bounce and inflict 50% Bounce damage on players, among other modifications. At present, the Brahminy triggers Bounce 80% of the time when hitting an enemy’s weak spot. Similarly, the Squidward LMG and Roaring Bear weapons will have their Bounce-related effects adjusted, and three Bounce gear sets – Prickly Dance Pants, Hot Dog Shorts, and Sharp Blade Pant— will receive updated passive abilities. Additionally, several mods are due for changes to their Bounce effects.
Following the Bounce updates, Starry Studio shifted focus towards numerous other modifications, such as fine-tuning the random algorithm to prevent repeated occurrences of random effects on Once Human gear that might not activate. These adjustments to the algorithm will cause an increase in the odds of the effect procuring when it doesn’t initially trigger. Although some players may express dissatisfaction with these changes, Starry Studio underlines their efforts to minimize potential nerfs in the upcoming balance update. Instead, they opted for buffs and environmental alterations as a means of achieving balance.
