The Void Century is a hugely mysterious period in the world of One Piece, taking place between 900 and 800 years ago. During this time, a powerful kingdom thrived but made many enemies. These enemies eventually united and defeated the kingdom in a massive war. The winners then went on to form the World Government.
The story strongly suggests Devil Fruits originated during the Void Century, meaning people with their powers existed back then. The final part of the One Piece series has already shown us several powerful Devil Fruit users who lived during this lost 100-year period.
Toki
- Devil Fruit: Toki Toki no Mi
Toki is the first character we’ve met from the distant past (the Void Century) who ate a Devil Fruit. Born roughly 800 years ago, her Devil Fruit power allowed her to travel through time. She repeatedly jumped forward in time, eventually arriving in the present day in Wano Country, where she married Oden and became the mother of Momonosuke and Hiyori.
Toki’s Devil Fruit was incredibly strong, giving her the ability to travel through time. Considering her family’s history with the Amatsuki clan, it’s not surprising she’s destined to be a key player in both freeing Wano and the larger fight against the World Government. We’ll learn more about her powers and story as the series progresses.

Ragnir
- Devil Fruit: Ratatoskr Power
Ragnir doesn’t have powers from eating a Devil Fruit in the traditional sense. Instead, it gained abilities through a unique process where a soul lived inside the hammer itself. Records from Elbaf suggest Ragnir was once wielded by the God of War, who used its power in a battle against the Sun God Nika. After the God of War died, Ragnir remained, and its companion – a squirrel named Ratatoskr – took up residence within it. This is similar to how a Devil Fruit user gains powers, but instead of consuming a fruit, the power came from a soul dwelling directly inside the hammer. Ragnir existed during the Void Century, but the exact time it received these powers is unknown.
Since that day, Ragnir has protected the powerful Devil Fruit of Elbaf, patiently awaiting its destined owner. He’s been guarding it for centuries – even throughout the mysterious Void Century – meaning Ragnir possesses knowledge of its secrets and will likely be a key figure in events to come. Currently, Ragnir is allied with Loki, helping him fight against Imu in Elbaf.
Joy Boy
- Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi: Model: Nika
Joy Boy is a confirmed Devil Fruit user from the distant past, specifically from the Void Century. He ate the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, a powerful fruit that grants abilities related to the Sun God Nika. There was debate about whether Joy Boy had any powers, but it’s now clear he did, thanks to confirmation of Nika’s existence thousands of years ago.
The existence of Devil Fruits during the Void Century proves Joy Boy had one as well, similar to Luffy, and could likely use a powerful technique like Gear 5 in battle. Combined with his incredibly strong Haki, this makes him one of the most powerful characters ever seen. We’ll learn more about Joy Boy as the story reveals more about the Void Century.
Five Elders
- Devik Fruits: Unknown Yokai Powers
As a huge One Piece fan, I’m completely blown away by the Five Elders! These mysterious figures work for Imu, and we always knew they were incredibly influential, but the Egghead arc finally confirmed what we suspected: they’re unbelievably powerful! For a long time, it was a mystery if they even had any abilities, but now it’s crystal clear they’re forces to be reckoned with.
The Five Elders have unique abilities stemming from a deal Imu made with a mysterious force. While the specifics of these powers aren’t clear, they function similarly to those gained from eating a Devil Fruit.
The Elders possess extraordinary powers, each resembling those of ancient, mythical beasts, making them incredibly strong. Evidence suggests they’ve lived for centuries, possibly dating back to the Void Century. For example, Saint Saturn appeared in Marijoa over two hundred years ago looking exactly as he does now. Given their age and extensive knowledge of figures like Nika and other ancient Gods, they were likely alive 800 years ago as well. They’ve consistently served Imu and will continue to do so throughout the final arc, for as long as necessary.
Ope Ope no Mi User
The Ope Ope no Mi fruit’s power, the Perennial Youth Surgery, was originally presented as a way to grant immortality by sacrificing the surgeon’s life. Legends spoke of a doctor who used this surgery in the past, making someone immortal but giving up their own life in the process. For a long time, though, it was unknown who this doctor was or who received the surgery.
Recent developments in the final arc of One Piece suggest the mysterious surgery seen earlier was performed during the Void Century. Characters like Ivankov and Dragon heavily imply that Saint Imu Nerona received this life-extending procedure from a doctor who lived centuries ago, explaining her incredible longevity. We can expect to learn more about this doctor as the story progresses.
Imu
- Devil Fruit: Unnamed Mythical Zoan Fruit
Imu, the mysterious ruler of the world, has been alive since the distant past – the Void Century – and still holds power today. Although we don’t fully understand their abilities, it’s clear they have a powerful Devil Fruit ability that lets them transform into a strange creature, likely a Mythical Zoan type. This transformation includes large wings and a pointed tail, which they’ve used to attack figures like Sabo and Cobra.
Imu has the power to enslave others, turning them into demonic servants. They also possess a spellbook that allows them to cast a variety of spells. Furthermore, Imu can grant followers special Covenants, which provide abilities like enhanced strength and immortality, though at the cost of becoming a host for Imu’s power. While much of Imu’s full potential remains a mystery, the author will likely reveal more about their abilities in the future.
