Luffy has become one of the most powerful pirates in the world of One Piece, largely thanks to his Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and his mastery of all three types of Haki. However, he’s still developing his full potential. Even though his Devil Fruit is already awakened, Luffy can significantly improve his Haki skills in the final part of the story, and the author, Eiichiro Oda, has plans for him to do so. As Luffy battles increasingly strong opponents on his journey to Laugh Tale, he’s certain to become even more powerful.
Conqueror’s Infusion Upgrade
Right now, Luffy in One Piece needs to improve his ability to infuse Conqueror’s Haki. He discovered during the Wano Country Arc that, like Armament Haki, Conqueror’s Haki can be used to enhance attacks. Mastering this technique would significantly increase his strength and defense, potentially allowing him to defeat strong opponents with a single hit.
Luffy’s ability to infuse his attacks with Conqueror’s Haki isn’t fully developed yet. Gaban pointed out during the Elbaf Arc that Luffy needs to improve his Haki technique to overcome the Holy Knights’ immortality. To defeat powerful opponents like the Holy Knights and the Five Elders, Luffy must master Haki, allowing him to defeat any Holy Knight and stop their regeneration – a feat accomplished by legends like Rocks, Roger, Gaban, and Rayleigh in the past.
Shockwave Haki
Haki is a versatile power with many uses. A particularly impressive application was shown by Rocks D. Xebec, Shanks, and Roger. They could gather immense Haki and release it with incredible force, creating a powerful shockwave capable of destroying almost anything. While they all carried swords, Rocks D. Xebec, Roger, and Shanks mainly fought using these Haki shockwaves. These attacks deliver a crushing blow, similar to a hammer, even though they’re launched with swords, which makes them unique compared to most swordsmen in the One Piece world.
Luffy hasn’t fully mastered the ability to send out powerful bursts of Haki. As a close-combat fighter, he needs to learn how to deliver these attacks with his fists, which would greatly increase his strength. His grandfather, Garp, is known for using similar attacks – like Galaxy Impact and Infinitum Explosion – and Luffy learning to do the same would significantly boost his fighting power.
Observation Killing
Shanks demonstrates a particularly innovative use of Conqueror’s Haki: he can effectively negate his opponents’ Observation Haki. As stated by Oda in One Piece Volume 4 Billion, Shanks possesses a rare ability that stops enemies from predicting his movements or using Observation Haki against him. This is achieved through his Conqueror’s Haki and is referred to as “Observation Killing.”
Luffy hasn’t mastered this ability yet, but as his Haki strengthens, he’s on track to potentially control it like Shanks. It’s uncertain if Luffy will ever equal Shanks’ Haki skills, but there are definitely some new abilities he needs to learn to continue growing stronger.
Conqueror’s Knot
The Conqueror’s Knot is a powerful Haki ability recently shown in the story. Centuries ago, Joy Boy used it to imbue Emeth with his strongest Haki. This power was then released during the Egghead arc, helping the Straw Hat Pirates escape the World Government.
Luffy hasn’t yet mastered the ability to infuse his Haki into objects for long periods, but he’ll need to learn this skill in the upcoming final arc to effectively support his friends. The fight against the World Government will be incredibly challenging, especially with immortal enemies like Imu’s Domi Reversi Army, the Holy Knights, and the Five Elders. Mastering this technique – Conqueror’s Knot – would be a significant power boost, not only for Luffy but for all of his strong allies.

Long-Ranged Haki
Conqueror’s Haki is incredibly powerful, especially when used to physically strengthen the body. However, it can also be used over great distances, as seen with Shanks during the Wano Country Arc. Even though he was far away from Wano, Shanks sensed Green Bull trying to invade and capture Luffy, Law, and Kid. He instantly stopped Green Bull with a strong blast of Conqueror’s Haki.
The attack hit Admiral Green Bull instantly, traveling a great distance and striking him directly in the chest. The impact immediately canceled his Woodsman form and completely paralyzed him, indicating Shanks possesses incredibly powerful and precise Conqueror’s Haki. Remarkably, Shanks even communicated with Green Bull through his Haki – a feat no one else has demonstrated. For Luffy to become a true Haki master and exceed Shanks’ abilities, he needs to master this same level of control.
Solo Skyplit Haki
The most significant way Luffy can improve his Haki in the Final Saga is by becoming more powerful overall. It’s important to remember that Conqueror’s Haki isn’t something you can train directly. Instead, it grows stronger as Luffy himself gets stronger – his Haki level will naturally increase with his overall power.
During the Egghead arc, Luffy needs to become as powerful as Joy Boy. Joy Boy’s Haki was so strong that it split the sky and completely neutralized the powers of the Five Elders, even causing Imu immense pain. Splitting the sky usually only happens when two incredibly powerful Haki users fight each other, but Joy Boy’s Haki alone was enough to do it. To have any hope of defeating Imu, Luffy needs to significantly improve his own Haki to reach that same level.
