One Piece: 7 Alternate Wielders For Luffy’s Gomu Gomu no Mi

Okay, so the Gomu Gomu no Mi – which is actually the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika – is seriously one of the coolest Devil Fruits in One Piece! It was created way back in the Void Century, and it’s the reason Luffy is so amazing. It gives him a rubber body, but it’s way more than that – it lets him basically make anything he can imagine a reality! Honestly, it’s no surprise the fruit chose Luffy – he’s a perfect match. But thinking about it, there are a few other characters in the series who I think could’ve also wielded its power really well, because they share some of Luffy’s unique qualities.

7. Colon

Colon is the son of Ripley and Scopper Gaban, and he shares many similarities with Luffy. Like Luffy, Colon loves adventure on the sea and embodies the spirit of a pirate. Though Colon doesn’t focus on freeing people from oppression, neither did Luffy when he was younger. Both characters, however, deeply care about protecting those they love and standing up for the innocent.

Colon will likely grow up with a personality very much like Luffy’s. Though he won’t obtain the Gomu Gomu no Mi fruit, he’d be a great fit for its power. Even with his limited role in the events of Elbaf, Colon has shown he deserves such a power and would use it to help others.

6. Jewelry Bonney

Jewelry Bonney is the daughter of Bartholomew Kuma and Ginny, and many believe she’s the perfect candidate to wield the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. As a child, Bonney suffered greatly from a disease called the Sapphire Scale Disease, inflicted upon her by the Celestial Dragons. Once cured, she began searching for Nika, hoping to bring happiness to both herself and her father.

Bonney’s Devil Fruit, the Toshi Toshi no Mi, gives her the unique ability to even access and use the power of Gear 5, temporarily transforming her into something like Nika. While she can’t use it as skillfully as Luffy, she’s still very young and has a lot of room to grow. This ability suggests she would have been a great match for the Gomu Gomu no Mi, as she’s already familiar with this kind of power, and it would have been amazing to see her fully utilize its rubbery qualities.

5. Bartholomew Kuma

Bartholomew Kuma is a character in One Piece who truly represents the ideals of Nika. From the time he was born, Kuma heard stories about the Sun God Nika, a figure who championed the oppressed and defeated those who abused their power. Even when Kuma was enslaved and taken to Marijoa, he never lost his faith in Nika. He once even imitated Nika’s movements, believing himself to be the Sun God and doing everything he could to free others.

Whether he was in God Valley, Marijoa, or the Sorbet Kingdom, Kuma consistently helped others selflessly. These qualities make him an ideal candidate for the Hito Hito no Mi, Mode: Nika. He would have been a powerful Sun God Nika, similar to Luffy, and could have freed the world from the World Government’s control. His lineage as a Buccaneer further supports this possibility.

4. Shanks

It’s ironic that Shanks could be a candidate for the Gomu Gomu no Mi, considering his ancestry – he has Celestial Dragon blood. However, a person’s family doesn’t determine their destiny. Shanks actually despises the Celestial Dragons and everything they stand for. He carries on the will of Gol D. Roger, acting as a sort of protégé to the legendary pirate. While Roger wasn’t able to achieve the goal of becoming Nika and freeing the world, that responsibility now seems to have fallen to Shanks.

Shanks didn’t eat the Gomu Gomu no Mi himself, but he obtained it and found the person destined to become Nika – Luffy. While it would have been amazing to see Shanks gain those powers, he instead passed on his core beliefs to Luffy. This alone demonstrates that Shanks possessed the qualities to be a truly incredible Nika.

3. Loki

Loki, also known as the Accursed Prince of Elbaf, is a key figure in the larger story. He possesses the incredibly rare Nidhogg Devil Fruit, considered as legendary as the Sun God Nika. However, Loki actually believes he is the Sun God destined to obliterate the world and create a new one.

Loki, like most of the Elbaf Giants, has long admired the Sun God Nika, making him a natural candidate for the Gomu Gomu no Mi. Though often seen as a villain, Loki isn’t truly evil – he’s a compassionate person who experienced hardship and abandonment in his youth. As an adult, he fiercely protects those he cares about and has dedicated himself to defeating the Celestial Dragons, whom he deeply despises. He would have been a compelling and powerful Nika.

Ace was a remarkable person, and although his personality differed from Nika’s, he was willing to do anything to protect his friends and free oppressed nations, as demonstrated in the Wano Country Arc. There, he liberated Amigasa Village and vowed to return and free the entire country from Kaido’s rule.

Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army, truly represents freedom and fights against all forms of control in the world of One Piece. He used to be a Marine, but he left the organization 38 years ago following the events at God Valley.

Monkey D. Dragon is leading a revolution to overthrow the Celestial Dragons and create a fairer world where everyone is equal and the weak are protected. He possesses all the traits needed to truly master the Gomu Gomu no Mi fruit and fulfill the goals of the Sun God of Liberation. Interestingly, his son actually is the Sun God, but Dragon himself would have been a strong contender.
