Over the years, One Piece has given us some truly amazing battles. While the series really shines with its story and the detailed world it creates, the fight scenes are still among the best in anime and manga. Fans love to see characters pushed to their absolute limits, but sometimes One Piece features fights where one side is completely dominated and the other is utterly defeated.
Sometimes the heroes lose, and other times, the villains are the ones who get thoroughly defeated. One Piece has many of these moments, but only a handful truly stand out as the most memorable.
9. Luffy Vs Crocodile (Round 1)
- Arc: Arabasta
Luffy’s battle with Crocodile in Arabasta was a harsh wake-up call. He’d easily handled opponents in the East Blue, but the Grand Line proved to be much more challenging, and he wasn’t prepared for Crocodile. Their fight, which took place outside Rain Dinners, was surprisingly short, lasting only about two minutes.
Luffy was completely defeated by Crocodile, taking a serious stab wound without managing to hit him once. He lost the fight badly and would have died if Nico Robin hadn’t intervened.
8. Luffy vs Bellamy
- Arc: Jaya
As the central figure in One Piece, Luffy is naturally involved in most battles, and his fight with Bellamy was particularly humiliating for Bellamy. Luffy went to reclaim the gold that belonged to Cricket, and when Bellamy started making fun of him, Luffy quickly defeated him with just one punch.
The contrast in power and skill between the two pirates was immediately clear, and their battle remains a famously one-sided defeat that fans still love to watch.
7. Luffy Vs Blueno
- Arc: Enies Lobby
Man, the Enies Lobby arc was incredible! I remember when Luffy first went up against Blueno – it was a total game-changer! He unleashed Gear Second for the very first time, and it was just… wow. He was moving so fast, hitting Blueno from every angle, and Blueno couldn’t even lay a finger on him! It was a complete domination, honestly. That fight really showed everyone what Luffy was capable of.
The defeat was especially humiliating for Blueno considering Luffy was still learning to control his abilities. Despite his body not being fully prepared for the strain of Gear Second, Luffy easily beat him, embarrassing Blueno and the entire CP9 organization.
6. Tashigi Vs Law
- Arc: Punk Hazard
On Punk Hazard, the Navy clashed with Trafalgar Law, even though he was one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Tashigi recklessly charged into the fight and suffered severe consequences. Law sliced her in half with a single sword stroke, harshly telling her that her weakness meant she had no control over her fate.
I felt really bad for Tashigi after that fight. She was clearly devastated, even crying, that her opponent hadn’t finished her off. It was a tough break, especially since she’d trained so hard after the timeskip and this was her first fight back – and she lost. It was a pretty humiliating experience for her, I could tell.
5. Luffy Vs Kaido (Round 1)
- Arc: Wano Country
Luffy’s battle with Kaido was his most crushing defeat yet. During their fight in Kuri, Luffy gave it his all, but it wasn’t enough.
With a massive 1.5 billion berry bounty on his head, many fans expected Luffy to at least land a hit on Kaido. However, it was a shock to everyone when Luffy couldn’t even scratch him. Immediately after, Kaido defeated Luffy with a single blow, leaving him severely injured – marking his most devastating loss yet in the series.
4. Kuma Vs Straw Hat Pirates
- Arc: Sabaody Archipelago
During the Sabaody Archipelago arc of One Piece, Kuma significantly impacted the story. While his actions were ultimately meant to help the Straw Hat Pirates, they initially seemed hostile.
Kuma swiftly defeated each member of the Straw Hat Pirates, scattering them and appearing to obliterate the entire crew with just a few powerful attacks. For a time, the world believed he had completely destroyed one of the most promising new pirate groups, and the crew seemed utterly broken and dispersed.
3. Imu Vs Zoro and Sanji
- Arc: Elbaph
The Elbaf arc of One Piece featured many exciting battles, but the fight between Zoro and Sanji against the World Government’s leader, Nerona Imu, was particularly memorable. To emphasize Imu’s power, series creator Eiichiro Oda introduced the ‘Wings of the Pirate King’ – powerful individuals who quickly fell in battle against Imu, foreshadowing the upcoming clash between Luffy, Loki, and Imu himself.
Imu easily overpowered Zoro and Sanji. Zoro was struck by Imu’s black flames and fell wounded, while Sanji was knocked unconscious with a single, powerful kick. Luffy’s defenses were quickly broken, proving no match for the overwhelming strength of the world’s most powerful being.
2. Zoro Vs Mihawk
- Arc: Baratie
During the Baratie arc, Zoro challenged Mihawk, believing he had the strength to win and become the world’s greatest swordsman. However, he hadn’t fully grasped how skilled other fighters were and was overly confident in his own abilities.
Zoro suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Mihawk, who disarmed him with just a small knife. While Mihawk acknowledged Zoro’s potential, the battle was deeply embarrassing for Zoro, as he was easily overcome.
1. Kid Vs Shanks
- Arc: Egghead
Kid recently battled Shanks in Elbaf and lost badly. Before the fight, Shanks’ crew attempted to intervene, but Kid was far stronger and would have easily defeated them.
To stop that from occurring, Shanks immediately intervened, defeating Kid and Killer with a single, powerful sword strike. As a result, the Kid Pirates were completely wiped out that day.
