Oda Introduced Gaban, Roger and Rayleigh’s Equal
In One Piece Chapter 1139, a significant figure from the Roger Pirates is introduced – none other than Scopper Gaban. Readers might recall Scopper Gaban from earlier storylines, specifically Buggy’s flashback years ago, but this is his first appearance in the present timeline.
At present, Scopper resides in Elbaf, where he has had a child with the towering Ripley. Upon his arrival, he was compared to Roger and Rayleigh, implying equal standing, and even labeled as a pirate who competes with Rayleigh himself.
It appears that Oda is indicating that the three monstrous figures associated with the Roger Pirates – Gol D. Rogers, Silvers Rayleigh, and Scopper Gaban – are all equally powerful.
What This Means for the Straw Hat Pirates
In a similar vein to how the Straw Hat pirates resemble the Roger Pirates in numerous aspects, it’s expected that Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji will eventually reach an equal level among themselves by the end of the story, mirroring the relationship between Roger, Rayleigh, and Gaban.
If it’s unveiled that Scopper Gaban possesses the Conqueror’s Haki, it strongly suggests that Sanji might also wield this power, given that Sanji shares a mirrored role with him in the Roger Pirates.
Scopper’s character, in general, is huge for Sanji and what it means for his future in One Piece.
