The Hito Hito no Mi, a powerful Zoan-type Devil Fruit, first appeared in chapter 138 of the manga One Piece on June 5, 2000. Initially introduced with Tony Tony Chopper of the Straw Hat Pirates, the fruit’s potential has become increasingly significant over time. Its importance was dramatically highlighted in chapter 1044, revealing the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, as the true identity of Luffy’s Gomu Gomu no Mi – a fruit with divine powers.

As the story reaches its peak, particularly in the final stages of the Elbaf Arc, the Hito Hito no Mi has taken on greater significance. Eiichiro Oda has revealed a new version of this Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza, which will appear later in the story. This fruit is based on a god known for causing massive rainfall and floods.

One Piece Chapter 1182 Officially Sets Up Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza

Chapter 1182 of One Piece was released on May 10, 2026, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump and provided important details about the different types of Hito Hito no Mi. When Eiichiro Oda first introduced the various subtypes of this Devil Fruit, including Luffy’s Nika fruit (in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #17 on March 28, 2022), it sparked a lot of imagination. Revisiting Chapter 287 (released August 11, 2003, in issues #37-38 of Weekly Shonen Jump), I and many other fans immediately realized the potential for other Hito Hito no Mi fruits to grant god-like powers.

In One Piece chapter 287, a Shandian Elder pleads to the gods of the sun, rain, forest, and earth, offering a woman’s blood as a sacrifice to protect their village from impending catastrophe.

In the latest One Piece chapter, 1182, creator Eiichiro Oda introduced the incredibly powerful Rain God Zaza, bringing a long-hinted possibility to life. Zaza is a god-like being with immense strength, rivaled by few. His arrival was orchestrated through St. Killingham’s MMA, which is now enhanced by a power stemming from Imu’s Devil Fruit ability. Through Killingham’s summoning, Oda revealed significant backstory about this ancient god.

As the pleas for rain rose, he arrived – Rain God Zaza! – as proclaimed in One Piece chapter 1182 by Saint Killingham.

Okay, so in One Piece chapter 1182, Oda just blew my mind! He confirmed that all the Celestial Dragons are genuinely terrified of Rain God Zaza. Think about it – their whole deal is living above the clouds, completely separated from the troubles of the ‘lower world’. They never have to worry about something like rain or any natural disaster! But Zaza? He brings the rain, and serious floods, right to them. It’s a huge threat to their sense of control and safety, which is honestly amazing to me. It’s like their perfect world is being threatened by something they can’t just ignore!

I’ve been thinking about the stories of the Rain God Zaza circulating in Marijoa, and it’s clear this deity was once incredibly feared – apparently, on the same level as the Sun God Nika. Chapter 1182 really reinforces that idea. It makes me believe that somewhere out there, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza, exists, just waiting for someone to awaken its power.

Saint Killingham described being born in a sky-high land, far above the clouds. He and his people were terrified of rain, viewing it as a dangerous threat. They were taught that a creature called the Rain God lived below, in the lower world, and would pour water down on anyone below.

Like the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, the Zaza fruit seems to have a will of its own and is connected to a deity. All Zoan-type Devil Fruits choose their owner – they only go to someone they’re perfectly matched with. The Nika fruit, in particular, actively avoided falling into the World Government’s control because it wasn’t meant for them. It determined its own path and ultimately reached Monkey D. Luffy.

Luffy ate the Gum-Gum Fruit about thirteen years ago. Now, the Zaza Fruit has remained undiscovered for years, waiting for someone worthy to eat it. We don’t yet know who that person will be, and I’m excited to see who the author, Oda, chooses to wield its power in the future.

Zaza Has Powers To Call Torrential Rains And Cause Floods

According to Eiichiro Oda, the Rain God Zaza is incredibly powerful, capable of creating massive rainfall and devastating floods. In One Piece chapter 1183, released on May 24, 2026, Zaza unleashed a torrential downpour on the Western Village of Elbaf, which was already largely submerged. This chapter showed fans just how severe the flooding actually was, revealing that most of the area was underwater.

Oh man, I really screwed up! I accidentally summoned something terrible! I got way too excited and didn’t think things through – that’s what I’m worried about now! Seriously, I messed up big time.

It’s important to remember that the Rain God Zaza we’ve seen – the one created by Killingham – is just a fighter built using the power of the Kirin Mythical Zoan fruit. The actual Rain God Zaza is probably much stronger, potentially capable of flooding entire countries and completely controlling the weather.

Eiichiro Oda has introduced the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza, in One Piece, effectively creating a major threat to all Devil Fruit users. Considering everything, it’s clear why the Celestial Dragons are so afraid of Zaza. Their Devil Fruit power is strong enough to completely negate even the abilities of Nerona Imu’s incredibly powerful Devil Fruit. While Imu’s fruit is overwhelmingly strong, it becomes useless when exposed to a large amount of water. This leads many, including myself, to believe that this Devil Fruit could be among the most powerful in the entire One Piece world as envisioned by Oda.

We don’t yet know who possesses this Devil Fruit, and it might not even have been eaten by anyone. However, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Zaza, is expected to become important to the story, particularly as the major conflict approaches. I’m excited to see how it will be used.
