One Piece Crushes The Wings Of The Pirate King — Zoro And Sanji Defeated By Nerona Imu

Chapter 1180 of the manga One Piece showcased the immense power of Nerona Imu as he arrived in Elbaph. Creator Eiichiro Oda has expertly established him as a truly dominant and formidable final villain.

The newest chapter of One Piece revealed a glimpse of Imu’s power as he easily defeated the Wings of the Pirate King – a group known for being incredibly strong. He didn’t even seem to be trying hard, completely overwhelming them. This marks the first time the Straw Hat Pirates’ top commanders have suffered such a decisive loss, and it suggests even tougher challenges are coming as the story progresses towards the Elbaph arc.

How Imu Dismantled Luffy’s Strongest Commanders In Elbaph’s Latest Chapter

As soon as Nerona Imu landed in Elbaph, it was obvious he intended to use his powers and defeat many opponents. Surprisingly, Zoro and Sanji were among the first to fall in battle. Once Imu arrived in Warland, his focus shifted to saving the Holy Knights, and he immediately showed his skill by attacking Roronoa Zoro.

Zoro launched a powerful attack, ‘King of Hell: Onigiri,’ infused with both Armament and Conqueror’s Haki, but Imu effortlessly blocked it with his tail, showing no concern. Imu then countered with his own black flames, leaving Zoro injured. He quickly moved towards Sanji, easily stopping Sanji’s attack with a kick before unleashing more black flames, knocking the cook down as well.

Breaking Down Zoro and Sanji’s Limitations Of Power

Zoro and Sanji are both exceptionally strong, surpassing most of the top commanders serving the Yonko. Zoro is skilled in all three forms of Haki and possesses devastating attack power, amplified by his sword Enma which grants him access to immense power. Sanji, meanwhile, is rapidly developing his abilities and has learned to control the powerful, demonic flames of Ifrit Jambe.

Sanji is a man truly worthy of being the Wings of the Pirate King! — Nico Robin, Chapter 1020

Zoro and Sanji are projected to reach the level of the Yonko eventually, and currently possess immense strength, capable of battling even those powerful pirates. However, someone like Imu is far more powerful, as recent events in the Elbaph arc have shown. To truly help Luffy achieve his dream of becoming Pirate King, Zoro and Sanji will need to significantly increase their power.

Why The Fall Of The Wings Will Trigger An Evolution Of Strength In Elbaph

In the latest chapter of One Piece, Imu defeated the Pirate King’s top fighters, but that won’t keep them down for long. Zoro and Sanji now understand they need to become even stronger to overcome this challenge. Meanwhile, Imu has fully revived Sommers and Killingham, meaning someone needs to step up and fight them, particularly since they appear more powerful. Fans can expect Zoro and Sanji to return before the Elbaph arc concludes, and they’ll likely be significantly stronger when they do.

Zoro needs to master his Conqueror’s Haki to become even more powerful offensively. Sanji, on the other hand, needs to unlock this ability altogether so he can effectively fight and defeat the immortal beings in the world of One Piece. Sommers and Killingham will provide good practice for them, but they aren’t nearly as strong as Imu. Imu is far above them in terms of power and likely always will be; he’s on a completely different level.

One Piece Chapter 1180 will be available to read on Manga Plus on April 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. EST.
