One Piece Episode 1158 Review The Return Of Luffy’s Gear 5th

This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

Episode 1158 of One Piece kicks off the Elbaph arc with some exciting action. Last time, Usopp and Nami narrowly avoided danger after Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji intervened to stop a massive lion. Nami had already taken care of a giant porcupine and cat, but she wasn’t strong enough to defeat the lion on her own. The Straw Hat Pirates were very lucky the Monster Trio showed up when they did, or things could have gone terribly wrong.

In One Piece Episode 1158, Luffy and his crew encountered a giant riding a grasshopper. When they inquired about a mysterious kingdom, the giant explained that it all belonged to the Sun God, who created the land around the central tree, Yggdrasil. The giant cautioned them against going past the castle, warning that it led to the heavily guarded temple of the Sun God. Unsurprisingly, Luffy ignored the warning and immediately headed in that direction.

Luffy And His Group Rescued Chopper

Luffy quickly ran into a wall, and the impact caused cracks to spread across it. This revealed a shocking truth: the entire Block Kingdom was actually a cage built to trick and trap the Straw Hat crew. Before they could fully process this discovery, they heard Chopper calling to them from the other side of the fence.

Zoro instantly reached for his swords, ready to cut whatever was causing the problem, but Chopper was too frightened to let him. Nami quickly used her thieving skills to unlock Chopper’s restraints. Inside, they discovered Chopper chained up, crying and terrified. Zoro then used his swords to break the chains again. Just as the crew reunited, a massive snake suddenly appeared.

The Monster Trio Show Off Their Strength In One Piece Episode 1158

Besides the snake, the room also contained three enormous mice and a crow. Since Usopp, Nami, and Chopper weren’t strong enough to battle them, it was up to Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji to take care of the creatures. Luffy transformed into his Gear 5th form and went after the snake, while Sanji fought the mice and Zoro dealt with the crow.

Shortly after, the Sun God returned to find the temple in complete disarray. Zoro and Sanji quickly defeated their enemies, and Luffy finished off the snake using his Gomu Gomu no Dawn Pistol attack. With all the animal opponents defeated, the crew decided to go back inside. They ran into the large cat again, but Luffy easily subdued it with a single punch, turning it into a friendly pet.

Escaping The Sun God’s Fury

While riding a cat, Nami announced she’d found a map leading out of the Block Kingdom, giving them a chance to escape. As they fled, the Sun God appeared and started pursuing them, furious that they had damaged his temple. It was clear he intended to punish them if he caught up.

The so-called Sun God who rules the Block Kingdom is probably just a powerful giant, not an actual god. He created the kingdom simply to cause trouble and enjoy the suffering of others, making him a decidedly unpleasant character.

Okay, so from the preview of Episode 1159, it’s pretty clear the Sun God is coming after the Straw Hats – honestly, after they wrecked his ‘temple,’ I wouldn’t expect anything less! But honestly, I’m not worried at all. The Monster Trio are looking strong, and there’s just no way the Sun God could actually hurt them. They’re in top form, and I’m confident the crew will handle it!
