As someone who has spent countless hours traversing the vast seas of the One Piece universe, I can confidently say that the Rocks Pirates hold a special place in pirate lore. Led by the fearsome and enigmatic Rocks D. Xebec, this crew was a force to be reckoned with, boasting members who would later become legendary figures in their own right – from Whitebeard, Kaido, Big Mom, to even Shiki, a name that still sends shivers down the spines of sailors today.

The seas are home to all manner of people, no matter their allegiance. Since the arrival of Joy Boy, the seas have been dominated by pirates. The rise of Gol D. Roger amplified things further and more people began to take up piracy.

Piracy was plagued by its own internal conflicts. Many pirates clashed over treasure and territories, while others engaged in skirmishes with the Marines. Consequently, numerous pirate crews disbanded, yet their impact continues to resonate.

Over time, Hody managed to gather allies who shared his perspective, eventually establishing the New Fish-Man Pirates. Had they not been prevented, this crew was poised to cause chaos on Fish-Man Island and erase whatever chances remained for a brighter future.

6 Spade Pirates

Captain: Portgas D. Ace

The Spade Pirates, initially established by Portgas D. Ace, aren’t frequently talked about in the manga. Yet, two novels provide a more detailed look at Ace’s early escapades with the Spade Pirates, offering an enriching perspective on their history.

The Spade Pirates attained infamy, primarily due to their captain who defeated a powerful Shichibukai. Subsequently, the crew sailed independently until Ace was vanquished by Whitebeard. Following this event, they were incorporated into the Yonko’s crew. While it might appear detrimental, this choice ultimately proved beneficial for them in the long run, as they would have been unable to withstand stronger crews of the New World.

For a considerable period, the Donquixote Pirates held sway over the nation of Dressrosa. Through deceit, they falsely accused the former king and his kin, seizing power in the process. The Donquixote Pirates were notoriously hazardous, their allegiance belonging solely to their captain.

Without a second thought, they mercilessly slaughtered their adversaries. Additionally, they forced the Tontatta Tribe into servitude at SMILE factories. The team was equally engaged in various other endeavors, including those underway in Caesar’s lab on Punk Hazard. Fortunately, the Straw Hat Pirates managed to overcome the Donquixote Pirates, resulting in their incarceration within Impel Down.

4 Gecko Pirates

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but marvel at the formidable prowess of our scaly sea rover, Gecko Moria. In a gripping tale from the past, it was unequivocally shown that he stood toe-to-toe with the colossal Kaido, an accomplishment that few can claim. Although their personal battles were evenly balanced, their respective crews were not.

The defeat led to complete elimination of the Gecko Pirates, with all but Moria meeting their end. Not much is available regarding other Gecko Pirates, but Moria claims they were famed for their power. However, take this claim with caution as Moria was in a highly emotional state at the time. The demise of his comrades significantly altered Moria’s perspective, causing him to strive towards creating a zombie-crew instead.

3 Whitebeard Pirates

The Whitebeard Pirates emerged following the God Valley Incident, with Edward Newgate, famously known as Whitebeard, at their helm. Swiftly making a name for themselves, these pirates stood out in a world where such distinction was rare. Guided by respect and harmony, values scarcely found among typical pirate crews, the Whitebeard Pirates built an exceptional reputation. Whitebeard regarded each crew member as kin, and this bond was deeply felt in return.

Whitebeard’s crew was tightly bound, and anyone considering attacking a member knew it would lead to conflict. As such, many adversaries preferred not to provoke the Whitebeard Pirates, given the potential for war. However, following the death of Whitebeard during the Summit War, the crew’s days were numbered.

2 Roger Pirates

Captain: Gol D. Roger

It’s generally accepted that the Roger Pirates are the most legendary pirate crew in history, having successfully navigated not just one but two journeys across the Grand Line. Unfortunately, they didn’t manage to visit a particular island during their first voyage, which would have led to their captain, Roger, being named Pirate King earlier than he was.

To ensure the second voyage’s success, Roger implored Whitebeard to allow Oden to join them. With the samurai from Wano on the ship, they ultimately discovered Laugh Tale and uncovered the world’s true past. Soon after, Roger disbanded the crew and surrendered to the Marines. The World Government views the Roger Pirates’ transgressions as irredeemable, which is why they persistently pursue the surviving members.

In a past era, 38 years before the present, the infamous Rocks D. Xebec captained the fearsome pirate group known as the Rocks Pirates. Renowned for their might, this crew stood unrivaled among their contemporaries. Notable figures such as Whitebeard, Shiki, Kaido, Big Mom, and Buckingham Stussy were part of this formidable team. Each of these seasoned warriors showcased their combat prowess even after the Rocks Pirates disbanded, demonstrating their exceptional skills throughout their subsequent careers.

Due to their impressive roster of influential members, the Rocks Pirates were viewed as a formidable danger not only by the World Government but also by other pirate groups. However, their reign came to a halt during the God Valley Incident when they faced an alliance consisting of Marines and Roger Pirates, eventually suffering defeat.
