Fans of anime and the *One Piece* series widely agree that Devil Fruits are among the most creative and unusual power systems in action-packed shōnen stories. While the original manga by Eiichiro Oda already featured a ton of unique Devil Fruits, the anime adaptation by Toei Animation has added even more to the mix.
The *One Piece* anime includes filler storylines and specials that have introduced unique Devil Fruits not found in the original manga. Over the show’s twenty-one-year run and sixteen major story arcs, many of these fruits have appeared. Here are eight of the strangest anime-only Devil Fruits so far.
Kama Kama No Mi
Allows Its User To Turn His Nails Into Deadly Blades

- Eaten by: Eric
- Type: Paramecia
- Debut: Episode 56
The Warship Island arc is well-known as the first filler storyline in the *One Piece* anime. It’s where several Devil Fruits exclusive to the anime were introduced, including the Kama Kama no Mi. After eating this fruit, Eric – the arc’s main villain – gained the ability to extend his fingernails. He uses them for direct attacks or to shoot wind blades at his opponents.
Besides using sharpened nails as weapons, Eric claims his wind blades are as powerful as top-quality swords – a pretty bold statement. Interestingly, the name of his Devil Fruit caused a running gag where Luffy mistakenly thought Eric was a flamboyant performer, similar to characters like Bon Clay and Ivankov, long before they appeared in the story.
Ami Ami No Mi
Allows Its User To Turn Everything He Eats Into Nets

- Eaten by: Largo
- Type: Paramecia
- Debut: Episode 427
The Little East Blue arc featured Largo, a dangerous pirate captain working for Shiki, and his unique Devil Fruit, the Ami Ami no Mi. This fruit lets him create nets from his body. While it might not sound powerful at first, there’s a twist: the nets gain different elemental abilities based on what Largo has recently eaten.
I’ve noticed Largo’s Devil Fruit is pretty unique. It lets him create not just standard, sticky webs, but all sorts of strange ones depending on what he’s consumed. For example, if he drinks boiling water, he can spin a net *of* boiling water, or if he eats fire, he can create a fiery web. This ability really sets his Devil Fruit apart, especially in the anime, and it made his battles with Luffy and the Straw Hats much more creative and engaging to watch.
Kyubu Kyubu No Mi
Allows Its User To Turn Anything He Touches Into Cubes

- Eaten by: Gairam
- Type: Paramecia
- Debut: 3D2Y: Overcome Ace’s Death! Luffy’s Vow to his Friends
Byrnndi World, the villain in the *3D2Y: Overcome Ace’s Death! Luffy’s Vow to his Friends* special, has a fairly typical Devil Fruit power – the Moa Moa no Mi. However, his shipwright, Gairam, is different. Gairam’s Devil Fruit, the Kyubu Kyubu no Mi, gives him a very unusual ability.
Gairam has the power to transform anything he touches into either a single large cube or multiple smaller ones, which he can then manipulate with his mind. He’s surprisingly skilled in combat, often using this ability to reshape the battlefield into enormous, disorienting mazes. He can even compress air into a cube and launch it like an explosive blast, similar to a technique used by Bartholomew Kuma.
Peto Peto No Mi
Allows Its User To Control Any Living Creature

- Eaten by: Breed
- Type: Paramecia
- Debut: Episode 625
Long before the Kibi Kibi no Mi appeared in the Wano Country Arc, the One Piece anime showed a similar, but more sinister, Devil Fruit called the Peto Peto no Mi. This fruit allowed its user, Breed, to create collars made of green slime and attach them to people’s necks, giving him remote control over their bodies.
Okay, so the Peto Peto No Mi is seriously messed up, but incredibly powerful! It lets the user control anyone – animals like those awesome Kung-Fu Dugongs, or even people like Luffy and Caesar Clown. What’s *really* scary is it can unlock someone’s full potential, making them way stronger. We actually *saw* this happen with Breed himself! He put a collar on his own neck and transformed into this massive, unbelievably strong creature. It’s a terrifying ability, honestly.
Gutsu Gutsu No Mi
Allows Its User To Turn His Body Into A Blast Furnace

- Eaten by: Bill
- Type: Paramecia
- Debut: Episode 746
Devil Fruits that let users *make* things by consuming other materials are incredibly strange, as they fundamentally change the user’s body. We first saw this with Largo’s ability and again with Bill, the leader of the Silver Pirate Alliance, who possessed the Gutsu Gutsu no Mi.
After eating it, he gained the incredible ability to consume and melt metals within his own body. This strange but useful power allows him to do many things – forge weapons, shoot streams of burning metal, cover himself in a metallic shield, and even become physically stronger.
Koro Koro No Mi
Allows Its User To Transform Into A Living Mine Cart

- Eaten by: Aveyron
- Type: Paramecia
- Debut: Episode 747
Continuing with the Silver Pirate Alliance’s mining focus, Bill’s crewmate, Aveyron, ate a peculiar Devil Fruit called the Koro Koro no Mi. This fruit gave him the ability to transform into a human rail cart, sprouting spinning wheels on his arms and legs.
Aveyron can move incredibly fast along the rails of the silver mine. He also has a large compartment on his back where he carries passengers and various weapons, like cannons and oil drums. Although the Koro Koro no Mi’s powers are unusual, they’re surprisingly practical, particularly within the Silver Mine.
Iro Iro No Mi
Allows Its User To Camouflage Himself With Spray Paint

- Eaten by: Psycho P.
- Type: Paramecia
- Debut: Heart of Gold
It’s easy to overlook the modern and futuristic aspects of *One Piece*, given its focus on pirates, so seeing something like spray paint actually fits the world. A great example is Psycho P., a street artist and member of the Treasure Pirates who appeared in the *Heart of Gold* special. His Devil Fruit, the Iro Iro no Mi, is particularly interesting.
Psycho P. has the ability to cover himself in spray paint, effectively becoming invisible by blending into his surroundings. He’s also a talented artist who can mimic other people’s appearances to disguise himself or his friends. However, his copies aren’t always convincing, often looking more like exaggerated cartoons than realistic duplicates, so they don’t fool very perceptive people.
Unnamed Red Beast Zoan
Allows Its User To Turn Parts Of His Body Into A Mysterious Red Beast

- Eaten by: All-Hunt Grount
- Type: Zoan
- Debut: Episode 782
All-Hunt Grount, the central villain in the Marine Rookie Arc, is a particularly compelling character created specifically for the *One Piece* anime. He embodies the classic traits of a shōnen anime hero in both looks and personality, and possesses the unique ability of a rare, unnamed Zoan-type Devil Fruit.
If the metal support on Grount’s arm breaks, he risks losing control of his powers. When this happens, his left arm transforms into the powerful limb of a large, unknown beast covered in red fur. This monstrous arm grants incredible strength and the ability to generate powerful shockwaves. The source of this transformation is a peculiar Devil Fruit – unusual because it doesn’t seem to be based on an existing animal, though it could be inspired by a creature from the *One Piece* universe. It’s also rare for someone with a Zoan-type Devil Fruit to lose control of their transformation in a way similar to a werewolf. Luckily, Grount eventually gained complete control of this mysterious ability after a difficult fight with Luffy.
