This article contains spoilers from One Piece 1122.

In the popular series “One Piece,” our protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, finds himself right in the thick of a significant conflict. The narrative has progressed to the Final Saga, and while the impending war is yet to fully erupt, it’s about to. Luffy’s recent elevation to Yonko status signifies a monumental achievement; however, there are still formidable foes looming on his horizon. It’s fair to anticipate that Luffy’s forthcoming fights will be thrilling, and they promise to showcase his most powerful abilities, including Gear 5.

From the spectacle that fans have witnessed lately, it seems like Gear 5 alone may not be sufficient for Luffy to defeat his adversaries and emerge victorious. It appears crucial that Luffy undergoes further growth in strength, surpassing his current power limits, if he is to accomplish what Whitebeard and the Pirate King couldn’t – attaining a higher echelon of might.

Luffy’s Awakening Of Gear 5

Luffy Tapped In Gear 5 In Chapter 1044

Luffy’s Gear 5 stands as his greatest strength, a fact that’s hard to dispute given its extraordinary nature. It represents the zenith of Luffy’s Gomu Gomu no Mi, or Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika – one of the most perilous Devil Fruits for the World Government. Fans have long been aware of this fruit’s danger.

Beat loudly, heartbeat! – Luffy

Undeniably, the might of Gear 5 is extraordinary! As a fan, I was left in awe when Luffy first unleashed it against Kaido. Honestly, I couldn’t believe my eyes at the sheer power this ability held. Even a formidable opponent like Kaido, known for his immense strength, struggled to keep up with the rapid-fire tactics Luffy displayed during the battle. In the end, Luffy emerged victorious against Kaido. And then, in the subsequent arc, Luffy utilized Gear 5 again on numerous occasions, further proving that it’s on an entirely new level. He effortlessly dominated fights against foes like Lucci and even the Elders, leaving me speechless!

One Piece: Why Gear 5 Isn't Enough For The Final Saga

Despite causing harm, Luffy found it challenging to inflict significant damage on the Elders. His attacks would leave them hurt, but they’d swiftly recover, making his powers seem ineffective against them. In a prolonged fight, Luffy wouldn’t stand a chance against any Elder. This is because he exhausts quickly, while they maintain their energy throughout the battle. It’s evident that Luffy isn’t prepared to engage these powerful beings, let alone Imu, who holds an even higher position.

The Powers That Surpass Even Gear 5’s Capabilities

Joy Boy’s Haki Is The Key To It All

The power to beat the Five Elders and the one who sits above them, Imu, was recently highlighted in One Piece. This power is Haki. Fans know that Haki is one of the most dangerous abilities to exist in the story, and that it exists as a powerful force that only a few can wield, specifically when talking about Conqueror’s Haki. Fans already know that Luffy does have Conqueror’s Haki. He has utilized this power on many occasions in the story, and recently, he even unlocked Conqueror’s Haki Infusion, which allows him to make use of his Haki in the most advanced of ways. It is what truly makes Luffy a Yonko level threat to anyone and has ensured that he etched his name in history alongside the strongest of characters.

Only Haki reigns supreme! – Kaido

Despite Luffy’s current mastery of Haki, it appears insufficient to challenge or defeat the Elders. To stand a chance against them, Luffy must significantly advance in his use of Haki. This need was underscored by the Iron Giant at the end of the Egghead arc. The Iron Giant released Joyboy’s stored Haki, a power so intense that it not only knocked out most Marines on the island but also nullified the abilities of the Elders and the summons performed by Saturn. Their powers were rendered completely ineffective, forcing them back to Marijoa, weakened. Luffy doesn’t possess such power with his Haki, indicating a need for him to become stronger. Even with Gear 5, he may not be able to reach the pinnacle.

According to Kaido’s perspective, raw abilities aren’t enough to rule the world; Haki holds ultimate power. Roger demonstrated this by healing the world with his mighty Haki, and he didn’t even possess a Devil Fruit. However, it’s crucial to remember that this is just Kaido’s viewpoint, not an absolute truth. In essence, Luffy can’t reach the pinnacle relying solely on abilities; he requires Haki to get there. This doesn’t imply that Haki surpasses Devil Fruit powers or that Devil Fruit powers are worthless. On the contrary, Kaido’s defeat at Luffy’s hands demonstrates this. What it signifies is that for Luffy to achieve the seemingly impossible – defeating the Elders and Imu – he needs to simultaneously enhance both his Haki and Devil Fruit abilities.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but feel thrilled about Luffy’s latest breakthrough with Gear 5, but there’s still room for improvement – particularly when it comes to Haki. Even after this monumental step forward, Luffy is light years away from the Haki prowess exhibited by Joy Boy or Shanks in their respective moments of brilliance. As One Piece progresses, it’s clear that Luffy needs to refine his Haki skills and reach Joyboy’s level. That’s the only way he can go toe-to-toe with the Elders and Imu, by matching their Haki power for power. And let’s not forget about Blackbeard, who wields the power to nullify any other Devil Fruit ability. Mastering Joyboy’s level of Haki is crucial if Luffy wants to neutralize Blackbeard’s abilities and make our hero stand a chance in this epic battle.
