This week, Ripple‘s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), David Schwartz, took to clarifying some misunderstandings and rumors surrounding him. Specifically, he was queried about his affluence and supposed billionaire standing, following reports linking him to expensive NBA basketball court seats.
Currently, there’s speculation within the cryptocurrency sphere about Schwartz’s continued importance at Ripple and if his allegiance lies with his company or the technology he has contributed to.
Who Is David Schwartz Loyal To?
After clearing up the misunderstanding that he isn’t a billionaire, Schwartz faced additional questioning and scrutiny regarding his position at Ripple Labs and which side he aligns with.
A user who identifies as an X fan expressed the opinion that the CTO is merely an employee of Ripple Labs. They went on to say that his loyalty lies with Ripple rather than XRPL or XRP. This comment caught Schwartz’s attention, leading him to clarify his own allegiance and reasons behind it.
Chris Larsen, a co-founder of Ripple, requested that Schwartz become a member of the company’s board. Larsen sought out Schwartz due to his loyalty and believed it essential to have him on the team as the CTO.
During that moment, Schwartz understood Larsen’s comment as a sign of loyalty towards the previous CEO and responded by declaring, “I will remain loyal to him as long as I believe he is the suitable person to lead Ripple.” He also reaffirmed his commitment to being loyal to his company.
Despite this, the CTO elaborated on his perspective of loyalty. In his view, loyalty should be gained, and he remains faithful to what he believes merits it.
According to Schwartz, this belief significantly impacts his own life. He prefers not to have people’s allegiance if they don’t believe he’s worthy of it. In other words, he maintains that his most critical detractors would concede that he merits respect and loyalty.
Instead, some people reproach me for the very thing I’m accused of, often unaware of it.
The CTO of Ripple expresses his continued commitment to the project but warns that he may leave if it no longer aligns with his beliefs. He adds that he might choose not to openly criticize the company for personal reasons.
His response wasn’t all praise, as some pointed out that he failed to acknowledge XRP Ledger in his initial post, which they believed strengthened its argument.
Is Schwartz Rippleβs Steve Wozniak?
The person who first raised a query about him drew a comparison between Schwartz and Ripple, suggesting that Schwartz is equivalent to Steve Wozniak in relation to Apple and Steve Jobs. This observation ignited a debate among community members with differing viewpoints.
Another user pointed out that Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer plays a much bigger role than just being the CTO, given his significant impact on the advancement of blockchain technology and the creation of the XRP Ledger.
A different individual expressed confusion about Schwartz’s connection to Ripple, given his prominent role in creating blockchain technology.
If I were among the candidates believed to be Satoshi Nakamoto or a blockchain developer, I’d have the confidence to work for myself instead of being an employee for a corporation.

In his response, the CTO clarified that he intends to leave the company once it loses its appeal for him.
I don’t feel obligated to continue working at Ripple if it becomes unenjoyable for me. Additionally, I prefer not to express views contradictory to my beliefs in public. This is a practice I have adhered to throughout my life.
A commenter noted that having the role of a project leader involves handling corporate and administrative tasks, which may not appeal to everyone. According to another user, some people are excited about being in charge, while others prefer to focus on coding and research & development (R&D), i.e., the interesting aspects of their work. Ultimately, it’s about personal preferences and where one is in life.
