🚨 AI Model Goes Rogue! 🚨
Oh, mon amis, gather ’round, for OpenAI hath declared it shall unleash upon the world an “open” language model, sans the shackles of secrecy!
According to the esteemed CEO, Sam Altman, this “new open-weight language model with the reasoning” shall be made available to developers, who shall be free to run it on their own hardware, sans the need for OpenAI’s benevolent guidance.
But, alas, dear friends, the road to this moment hath been long and winding, beset on all sides by “other priorities” that hath taken precedence. Ah, the trials and tribulations of the AI overlords!
And now, as the great philosopher, myself, hath said, “We still have some decisions to make, so we are hosting developer events to gather feedback and later play with early prototypes.” Ah, the wisdom of the ages!
An open-weight language model, you see, is a thing of beauty, a creature of the wild, free to roam and be modified at will by its human masters. ‘Tis not as open as an open-source model, but a step in the right direction, n’est-ce pas?
And so, dear developers, gather ’round, for OpenAI shall host events in San Francisco, California, and later in Europe and the Asia–Pacific region. Ah, the excitement is palpable!
We’re excited to see what developers build and how large companies and governments use it where they prefer to run a model themselves,” said Altman, with a straight face, no less.
And, of course, OpenAI shall do extra work, for they know this model shall be modified post-release. Ah, the joys of being an AI overlord!
OpenAI’s open-weight language model GPT-2 was partially released in February 2019, followed by a full release in November of the same year. Ah, the memories!
Altman also said on Feb. 12 his firm wants to ship GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 in the coming weeks or months. Ah, the suspense is killing us!
The AI arms race hath been heating up, with the launch of rival DeepSeek, which functions similarly to ChatGPT but was reportedly created at a fraction of the cost and time. Ah, the competition is fierce!
Alibaba Group launched its new open-source AI model for cost-effective AI agents on March 26, while Google introduced Gemini 2.5, its latest experimental artificial intelligence model, on March 25. Ah, the innovation is staggering!
Meanwhile, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a March 19 Threads post that the firm’s AI model family, Llama, released in February 2023, had hit 1 billion downloads. Ah, the numbers are staggering!
