Overwatch Reveals Hefty Patch Notes for April 2026

The second season of the Overwatch story arc, Reign of Talon, is now available! It includes a new hero who deals damage, a special in-game event, changes to how heroes play, fresh content for the Stadium map, and a version of the game for the new Nintendo Switch 2. Season 2 runs until June 16th.

In 2026, Overwatch made a big comeback. Starting February 10th, the game returned to being simply called Overwatch, added five new playable characters, and launched ongoing storylines that will unfold throughout the year. The refreshed game has been incredibly popular, setting new records for player numbers on platforms like Steam and Twitch in recent months.

Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 Highlights

Building on the positive reception of its launch, Overwatch has released Season 2, called “Summit.” The season introduces Sierra, a new hero who works for Helix Security. Sierra is a Recon DPS character with abilities like tagging enemies with Tracking Shot to guide her Helix Rifle, quickly moving around the map with her Anchor Drone, and using Tremor Charges or her powerful Trailblazer ultimate to damage enemy groups.

Okay, so Season 2’s big story is all about this operation on Grand Mesa. Basically, Talon raided a Helix facility and stole something important! Over the next three weeks, there’s an event where we can complete challenges to unlock rewards and learn more about what’s going on with Sierra, Grand Mesa, and how it all fits into the bigger Overwatch story. But that’s not all! We’re also getting a new 4v4 arcade mode, Junkrat’s Loot Hunt from May 8th to 11th, and they’re even doing a crossover with Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred soon, which sounds awesome!

The Overwatch 10-year anniversary event will take place after the midseason update in May.

As usual, this Overwatch update includes changes to hero balance. This time, several important abilities—like Ramattra’s Vengeful Vortex, Pharah’s Drift Thrusters, Reaper’s Dire Triggers, and Mercy’s Flash Heal—are now built into the heroes themselves, instead of being separate perks. These heroes will also get new, powerful abilities to replace what was removed. Other heroes have also been adjusted with both buffs and nerfs, and some of these changes are specific to 6v6 matches.

Wow, this new update is HUGE! As a fan, I’m so excited to dive in. They’ve added Ramattra to Stadium, along with the Lijiang Night Market map, and even reworked Juno’s abilities. There’s a ton of balancing happening too! But that’s not all – the map voting system is completely new. Now there’s a random map option, a ‘Landslide’ rule to make sure the most popular maps get played, and you even get extra Battle Pass XP and Competitive Points for voting for newer maps! They’ve also added cool post-match awards, tweaked aim assist for console players, revamped Antarctic Peninsula, and dropped some awesome Mythic Skins. Plus, they fixed a bunch of bugs! Seriously, there’s so much to explore in Overwatch Season 2: Summit, you definitely need to check it out!

Operation: Grand Mesa

The event explores what happened after her fight with Talon, and reveals details about the attack on Watchpoint: Grand Mesa – including why Talon targeted it. You’ll learn more about Sierra’s background and the events that led to her joining Overwatch.

General Updates

Post-Match Accolades

End-of-match cards are back in Overwatch with a fresh new look! Now, you can showcase your best skins on a 3D stage and vote for the Most Valuable Player (MVP). The two players who performed best on each team will be featured. To give a little extra recognition, our pick for the top hero on each team gets an extra vote towards winning MVP. You can also easily give endorsements to your teammates by selecting their hero portrait on the stage, and you’ll find all other social options there as well!

Starting now in both Unranked and Competitive matches, you’ll be able to use voice chat right after the game ends, as the post-match accolades screen appears. You’ll need to actively choose to join the chat by pressing a button. Just a reminder: voice chat is monitored for inappropriate behavior, so friendly banter is great, but abusive communication won’t be tolerated.

Players who earn MVP now hear special ‘Epic’ and ‘Legendary’ voice lines from their hero. This includes classic lines from our original heroes that haven’t been used in years, as well as brand-new lines for heroes added since the feature was last available. Newer heroes also have unique achievements that can trigger these special voice lines. We’ve also brought back the ability to recognize good sportsmanship with ‘Heroic Endorsements,’ allowing you to highlight positive player traits.

Map Voting Updates

  • Tags have been added for New Maps and Reworked Maps. Any map with a New or Reworked tag gives bonus Battle Pass XP in Quick Play and an automatic +10 Competitive Points in Competitive Play. The penalty for losing in Competitive Play on a map with one of these tags is also reduced, so give them a shot and don’t worry as much about losing!
  • A new Random Map option has been added as a 4th choice. The Random Map will never be one of the 3 visible maps.
  • When a map has 6 or more votes than any other map it wins by a Landslide, skipping the roll entirely. For example, King’s Row with 7 votes does not win by a Landslide against Dorado with 2 votes, because King’s Row only has 5 more votes than Dorado. 8 votes ensures a Landslide in 5v5 and 9 votes in 6v6. Even the Random Map option can win by a Landslide!
  • New Attack and Defend icons have been added to map cards for Hybrid and Escort, allowing players in Quick Play to know which side they’ll play if this map wins. In Competitive Play these just let players know which side they’ll play first.
  • At least 2 different game modes will now be offered across the 3 visible maps.
  • When you vote for a map that loses, this map will be offered to you sooner in future Map Votes.
  • When no one votes for a map that loses, this map won’t be offered as soon in future Map Votes to anyone in this match.

Mystery Heroes Updates

  • Mystery Heroes is now 6v6
  • Map Voting is disabled
  • Perks are disabled
  • Tanks now use their 6v6 balance tuning

We’ve updated Mystery Heroes to keep the fun, relaxed experience players enjoy, while also addressing some frustrating issues. Many of you play Mystery Heroes regularly, and we value all your feedback. We’re excited to hear what you think of these improvements!

Hero Updates

Some hero abilities have become essential to how players use them, defining their unique style and how they feel in the game. In Season 2, we’re making these abilities a permanent part of the heroes themselves to better support those popular playstyles. To balance this, we’re adding new perks, adjusting existing ones, and changing how long it takes to unlock perks for many heroes, ensuring a consistent progression pace.

I’m hearing the developers are still looking at how heroes get around the map. They’re focusing on those with abilities that let them move really often or that give them a huge advantage when they do. It sounds like they might be toning some of that down, which could be interesting to see!

We’ve added five new heroes and are tweaking the game’s balance for 6v6 mode. These adjustments will help heroes who are too strong or too weak compared to how they perform in the 5v5 mode. Just a heads-up: any changes made to heroes in 5v5 will also apply to 6v6 unless we specifically say otherwise.

Roster Updates

  • Sierra has been added to the Damage roster.

Console Aim Assist

  • Hitscan Auto Assist strength reduced by 4% to more closely match its pre–Season 20 values.
  • This change does not affect Legacy Strength Mode.

After changes to Aim Assist in Season 20, Hitscan heroes on consoles became stronger than other hero types. This update lowers the effectiveness of Aim Assist for Hitscan heroes, bringing their performance closer to what it was before Season 20.

Recon Subrole Passive

  • Vision duration on low-health enemies reduced from 5 to 3.5 seconds.

As a player, I’ve noticed that the time it takes to reveal enemies with Recon can feel a bit too long. Sometimes, enemies don’t even seem to realize they’ve been spotted! If the reveal didn’t last quite as long, it would be much easier to understand when they’re visible, and honestly, make the whole thing feel fairer to play against.

TANK

Sigma

  • Hyper Regeneration – Minor Perk
    • Now restores barrier health only when damaging enemy heroes.
  • Experimental Barrier
    • (6v6) Maximum health reduced from 650 to 600.

Ramattra

The Vengeful Vortex perk made the Ravenous Vortex ability much better at hitting flying enemies. We’ve now included this improved targeting as a standard part of the base ability, though with slightly less damage. Prolonged Barrier is now available as a smaller perk option, and Void Surge has been strengthened and is now a more powerful, major perk.

  • Ravenous Vortex
    • Vengeful Vortex moved from Perk to Baseline ability.
    • Projectile now explodes on contact with the ground.
    • Explosion can now be manually detonated while airborne.
    • Explosion damage reduced from 50 to 15.
  • Prolonged Barrier – Minor Perk
    • Added.
    • Void Barrier duration and size increased by 25%.
  • Vengeful Vortex – Major Perk
    • Removed.
  • Void Surge – Major Perk
    • Moved from Minor to Major Perk.
    • Delay between bursts reduced from 0.75 to 0.6 seconds.

Reinhardt

  • Shield Slam – Minor Perk
    • Added a custom setting allowing Shield Slam to be bound to Quick Melee, enabling free look while the perk is equipped.

Roadhog

Roadhog is now more effective because his powerful combo is more consistent. However, we’ve made changes to prevent players from using the combo too often, requiring more skill and precision with his Chain Hook. We also removed his Invigorate ability, as it was similar to features already found in his Bruiser playstyle.

  • Scrap Gun
    • Reload time increased from 1.5 to 1.75 seconds.
  • Chain Hook
    • Cooldown increased from 6 to 8 seconds.
  • Invigorate – Major Perk
    • Removed.
  • Hogdrogen Exposure – Major Perk
    • Added.
    • Take a Breather now heals nearby allies for 50% of its healing amount.

Winston

Giving Winston’s deployable abilities more damage makes him stronger in specific fights and creates interesting gameplay without simply making his regular attacks more powerful.

  • (6v6) Base health reduced from 350 to 325. (Total health including armor and shields reduced from 550 to 525.)
  • Tesla Cannon
    • Deals 50% increased damage to deployables.

Wrecking Ball

  • (6v6) Base health reduced from 475 to 450. (Total health including armor and shields reduced from 575 to 550.)

DAMAGE

Anran

Anran sometimes felt weak compared to how long it took to deal significant damage to enemies. Boosting the damage of her Fan the Flames ability will help her finish off opponents more easily. Also, giving her Dancing Blaze ability a base healing effect will reward players for using it well and help her stay alive longer.

  • Perk Costs
    • Minor Perk cost reduced by 7%.
    • Major Perk cost reduced by 5%.
  • Fan the Flames
    • Impact damage increased from 5 to 6.
  • Inferno Rush
    • Impact damage reduced from 50 to 30.
  • Dancing Blaze
    • Now heals Anran for 50 health on the first target hit and 25 health for each subsequent target.
  • Hungering Blaze – Major Perk
    • Changed.
    • Increases the healing of Dancing Blaze’s subsequent strikes by 25.

Ashe

  • Double Barreled – Minor Perk
    • Time required to retrigger Coach Gun increased from 1 to 2 seconds.

Bastion

  • Perk Costs
    • Minor Perk cost increased by 10%.
    • Major Perk cost increased by 6%.
  • Configuration Reload – Minor Perk
    • No longer fully refunds cooldown.
    • Now reduces cooldown by 4 seconds.
  • Armored Artillery – Minor Perk
    • Overhealth degeneration reduced from 100 to 50 per second.

Echo

As a gamer, I’m really excited about Echo being able to copy enemy and allied heroes. It seriously opens up so many cool strategic possibilities, especially for teams that are working together. We can create some insane ultimate combos now!

  • Duplicate
    • Can now duplicate allied heroes.
  • Focused Rush – Minor Perk
    • Range increased from 4 to 6 meters.

Emre

  • Siphon Blaster
    • Added an accessibility option which allows players to hold Secondary Fire to automatically fire Siphon Blaster at a reduced fire rate.
  • Heat Sink – Minor Perk
    • Heat generated from direct hits reduced from 100% to 60%.

Junkrat

  • Mine Recycling – Major Perk
    • Moved from Minor to Major Perk.
    • Eliminations with Concussion Mine restore one charge.
  • Bomb Voyage – Minor Perk
    • Moved from Major to Minor Perk.
    • Attack speed bonus reduced from 35% to 25%.

Pharah

We’ve added Drift Thrusters to Pharah’s Barrage, letting her move a little while using her ultimate, which makes it easier to aim and adjust position. To balance this out, the total damage of Barrage has been reduced slightly.

  • Hover Jets
    • Bonus movement speed reduced from 40% to 30%.
  • Barrage
    • Pharah can now move while using Barrage.
    • Explosion damage reduced from 30 to 25.
  • Drift Thrusters – Minor Perk
    • Removed.
  • Concussive Force – Minor Perk
  • Added.
    • Concussive Blast deals up to 50 explosion damage.

Reaper

Dire Triggers is now part of Reaper’s standard abilities, giving him reliable mid-range attacks that he can use frequently. This change is meant to make playing Reaper more strategic and allow for greater skillful play.

  • Dire Triggers
    • Moved from Perk to Baseline ability.
    • Cooldown increased from 3 to 6 seconds.
  • Trigger Finger – Major Perk
    • Added.
    • Using an ability or reloading refreshes Dire Triggers’ cooldown.

Soldier: 76

Letting Soldier: 76 reload while sprinting opens up new ways to play and highlights his strength as a fast-moving damage dealer. To balance this, we’ve added a small speed reduction during reloading, so there’s a clear benefit and drawback to using this ability.

  • Sprint
    • Can now reload while sprinting.
    • Reloading while sprinting reduces Sprint’s movement speed bonus by 50%, diminishing over the duration.
    • Added a custom setting allowing Sprint to cancel reload.
  • Agility Training – Major Perk
    • Removed.
  • Full Stride – Major Perk
  • New.
    • Sprint’s movement speed bonus gradually increases by an additional 25% over 2 seconds.

Sombra

  • Perk Costs
    • Minor Perk cost reduced by 6%.
    • Major Perk cost reduced by 5%.
  • Stealth
    • Movement speed bonus reduced by 50% while revealed by damage.

Tracer

  • Perk Costs
    • Minor Perk cost reduced by 10%.
    • Major Perk cost reduced by 7%.

Vendetta

Once Vendetta gets close to her target, it’s tough to stop her. These changes reduce her ability to stay alive and make it harder for her to maintain a good fighting distance. This means players will need to be more careful about where they position her and how they use her abilities.

  • Armor reduced from 100 to 75.
  • Perk Costs
    • Minor Perk cost reduced by 6%.
    • Major Perk cost reduced by 5%.
  • Onslaught (Passive)
    • Movement speed per stack reduced from 4% to 2%.
  • Palatine Fang
    • Overhead swing bonus range reduced from 2.5 to 2.0 meters.

Widowmaker

  • Perk Costs
    • Minor Perk cost reduced by 6%.
    • Major Perk cost reduced by 4%.

SUPPORT

Ana

Since Ana’s self-healing ability was changed, she now relies more on her Biotic Grenade to stay alive. Reducing the grenade’s cooldown will let her use it more often, helping her both protect allies and heal herself during fights.

  • Biotic Grenade
    • Cooldown reduced from 14 to 12 seconds.

Brigitte

Brigitte can sometimes feel vulnerable even though she needs to be up close to deal damage. Giving her Barrier Shield more health makes her more adaptable and helps her protect her team better.

  • Barrier Shield
    • Health increased from 250 to 300.
  • Combat Medic – Minor Perk
    • Cooldown refunded increased from 0.5 to 0.75 seconds.

  • Glide Boost
    • Movement speed bonus reduced from 50% to 40%.

Lifeweaver

Lifeweaver hasn’t been performing well lately, especially after changes that made him more vulnerable and limited his healing during fights. To help him, we’re increasing his total healing and giving Life Grip the ability to remove negative effects. This will make him both more durable and more useful without needing special items or abilities.

  • Healing Blossom
    • Maximum healing increased from 80 to 90.
  • Rejuvenating Dash
    • Healing increased from 45 to 55.
  • Life Grip
    • Now cleanses allies when pulled.
  • Sow the Seed – Major Perk
    • Cooldown reduced from 14 to 11 seconds.

Lúcio

  • Crossfade
    • (6v6) Healing reduced from 20 to 18.
  • Accelerando – Major Perk
    • Changed.
    • Gain 15% attack speed while Lucio’s Speed Song is active, tripled during Amp It Up.
  • Soundwave Rider – Minor Perk
    • Can no longer be charged before a round begins.

Kiriko

We’ve made Kiriko a bit slower at getting away from fights to encourage her to stay closer to her team. To make up for this, we’re letting her throw out Healing Ofuda more often, so she can still effectively heal and support her allies.

  • Swift Step
    • Teleport range reduced from 35 to 30 meters.
  • Healing Ofuda
    • Fire rate increased from 5 to 7 per second.

Mizuki

We’ve made a few tweaks to how Mizuki’s abilities work. You can now use Katashiro Return more quickly in response to situations, and we’ve adjusted his overall strength to ensure he remains balanced.

  • Perk Costs

  • Katashiro Return
    • Can now activate return while other animations are active, excluding Kekkai Sanctuary’s cast animation.
    • Movement speed bonus reduced from 35% to 30%.

Mercy

We’re making Flash Heal a permanent part of Mercy’s abilities! It’s a useful and impactful skill that lets her quickly heal allies when needed, encouraging players to think carefully about when to use it. To balance this improvement, we’ve made small adjustments to her regular healing output and movement speed.

  • Flash Heal
    • Flash Heal moved from Perk to Baseline ability.
    • Cooldown reduced from 15 to 12 seconds.
    • Base healing increased from 50 to 60.
    • Healing multiplier on allies below 50% health reduced from 3x to 2x.
  • Caduceus Staff

Wuyang

  • Rushing Torrent
    • Duration reduced from 4 to 3.5 seconds.

Zenyatta

  • Orb of Discord
    • (6v6) Damage amplification reduced from 30% to 25%.

Stadium Updates

General Changes

Okay, so when a new Ranked season kicks off, instead of starting completely from scratch, you’ll get a head start based on how far you got in the last season. Basically, your progress isn’t wiped clean – you’ll begin with some progress already marked off thanks to your previous rank. It’s awesome because it feels like your hard work carries over!

  • Elite: Start from Contender (5 Divisions down).
  • Pro: Start from Elite (5 Divisions down).

  • Symphonic Syzygy – Power
    • Damage Absorbed threshold for Attack Speed reduced to 50 (Down from 100).

Winston

Winston hasn’t been performing well lately, so we’re giving him some small improvements to his less effective abilities and a boost to his in-game currency. We’ll keep a close eye on how these changes affect him and make further adjustments if needed.

  • Lightning Rod – Power
    • Bounce Damage increased to 75% (Up from 50%).
  • Volatile Volt – Power
    • Critical Damage increased to 200% (Up from 175%).

  • Forager – Power
    • Max Life Healing reduced to 6% (Down from 8%).
