Back in 2007, when BioWare’s initial Mass Effect game was launched for Xbox, few hardcore RPG enthusiasts could have foreseen a franchise expansion that encompassed novels, comic books, movies, and more. The acclaimed original trilogy of video games follows the story of Commander Shepard, a human character who unites an alliance of diverse beings – aliens, humans, and robots – to combat the Reapers: a fleet of colossal, sentient spaceships that hibernate before every 50,000 years to harvest all advanced life forms in the Milky Way galaxy. Mass Effect 2, specifically, is often recognized as a modern masterpiece and is frequently lauded as one of the best video games ever produced. The richly detailed universe created by series creator Casey Hudson, art director Derek Watts, and other Mass Effect team members features races and worlds that are both beloved and credible, standing tall among the finest offerings in the sci-fi genre. Now, Amazon is moving forward with their television adaptation of this franchise.
