The Mortal Kombat movie came out in April 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first full-length live-action film based on the fighting game series since 1997’s Mortal Kombat Annihilation. Though the 2021 film wasn’t as poorly received as its predecessor, it still got mixed reviews from both critics and fans. Even so, a sequel was officially approved in January 2022.
