Summary
- A recent Phasmophobia update adds voice recognition for PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S players, allowing them to converse with spirits vocally.
- Several bugs were also fixed by the new patch.
In simpler terms, the horror game Phasmophobia has introduced an update featuring voice recognition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S users, allowing players a chilling method to converse with ghosts in this terrifying exploration title. Although teamwork with other players is crucial in Phasmophobia, the eerie atmosphere of its haunted settings will become even more immersive for console gamers.
Despite being categorized on Steam as an early access game, Phasmophobia has been in circulation since September 2020. This game challenges either solo players or groups of up to four, who work together to discern the nature of the spirits haunting various locations. With its eerie atmosphere and cooperative gameplay, Phasmophobia rapidly gained popularity on Twitch, as spectators flocked to live streams to witness what chilling experiences awaited those daring enough to explore its haunted sites.
The game titled “Phasmophobia” was transferred to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 31, 2024, two days before Halloween. A recent update introduces a new feature that enables console players to interact directly with ghosts through VOSK Voice Recognition technology. With the updated Spirit Box in “Phasmophobia”, players can now ask questions out loud instead of only choosing from an on-screen menu, making the console versions as interactive as the original PC version. Additionally, players can summon ghosts by name to boost observable paranormal activity temporarily, and they have the option to incorporate the voice recognition feature in various ways while using Curse Possessions.
When it comes to setting up voice recognition, the process may vary based on the gaming console you’re using. The DualSense controller for PS5 includes a built-in microphone, so players who prefer not to wear a compatible headset can use this feature instead. For PlayStation VR2 users, the update also supports the built-in mic. However, Xbox gamers will need a headset. To activate voice recognition, players should navigate to the game options from the main menu and switch Voice Recognition Mode from Text to Voice. It’s worth noting that for the Xbox version, if the microphone disconnects during gameplay, the game will automatically switch back to Text mode.
In Phasmophobia, the voice recognition feature, available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese, is a standout aspect. However, this latest patch also tackles some bugs within the game. The most significant issue was one that prevented Xbox Series X/S players from earning any achievements when playing alone offline, an issue now resolved by the new update.
Phasmophobia v0.11.1.2 Patch Notes
Voice Recognition in Phasmophobia allows Ghost Hunters to:
- Utilise the Spirit Box by speaking phrases such as ‘‘Are you friendly?’’ and “Give us a sign” to communicate with the ghost.
- Use Curse Possessions such as the Ouija Board to interact with the ghost and the Monkey Paw.
- Say the ghost’s name or other recognisable phrases near the ghost to be provided with a chance to increase the ghost’s activity for a short time.
