With summer approaching, GU, a well-known Japanese clothing brand, has announced a new Pokémon clothing line. It’s perfect for relaxing by the pool or wearing to the beach! Pokémon is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026 and remains incredibly popular – recent trading card releases and collaborations have sold out quickly, and fans are eager for more. This year is full of events honoring the franchise’s three decades of success, and this new collection is already generating a lot of excitement online.
The enduring popularity of Pokemon is a mixed blessing for dedicated fans. While new releases are fun, they often draw the attention of resellers who buy up all the available products, making it difficult for genuine collectors and parents to get what they want. This happened recently on May 2nd with the release of the Pokemon 30th anniversary collection at Target stores across the country. People reported lining up as early as 2 AM, only to find that scalpers had cleared out the entire stock. Even the display cases are being resold online for extremely high prices, like over $900 on eBay.

Lots of exciting partnerships celebrating the Pokémon franchise are coming in 2026. This January, Secretlab launched gaming chairs featuring Pikachu, Gengar, and Eevee. Throughout Japan, Pokémon Centers are selling special merchandise for the 30th anniversary. Puma recently unveiled sneakers inspired by Umbreon and Espeon, and Uniqlo will release retro Pokémon clothing this summer. Fans can also look forward to a collaboration with Adidas starting in September 2026.
This year in gaming, Pokemon Pokopia has been the biggest hit. Released for Nintendo Switch 2 in March, it received fantastic reviews. Pokemon fans also got a sneak peek at the next generation of games with the first trailer for Pokemon Winds and Waves in February. That game is slated for release in 2027 and will feature three new starter Pokemon: Browt (Grass-type), Pombon (Fire-type), and Gecqua (Water-type).
