As a gamer who grew up with the Game Boy and the iconic Pokemon Gold and Silver games, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia seeing this golden HeartGold cartridge. The original versions were part of my childhood, and it’s heartwarming to see fans still cherishing them today.
A dedicated Pokémon enthusiast has customized their Pokémon HeartGold game to evoke memories of the classic Game Boy version’s aesthetic. Despite the immense popularity of Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the physical cartridges lacked a certain charm that the original games possessed.
Reflecting on my gaming journey, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia when thinking about the good old days, especially when it comes to Pokemon. The series has been around for so long and continues to captivate us, making it a significant part of our gaming history. When we talk about the classics, Pokemon Gold and Silver from Gen 2 truly stand out. Though they weren’t the first in the lineup, they brought a host of innovative features to the table. For instance, I remember the sheer excitement of exploring two vast regions, engaging in phone chats, challenging trainers for rematches, and, of course, the full-color graphics.
One enthusiast has customized their prized copy of Pokemon HeartGold by giving it a facelift. Supertazon dismantled their copy of Pokemon HeartGold, extracting the printed circuit board. They later inserted this board into a golden anodized aluminum casing. The fan also employed a laser to etch “Nintendo” onto the backside of the cartridge. A comparison with the original version of Pokemon Gold reveals a striking resemblance in color between the two cartridges.
Fans React to Pokemon HeartGold Cartridge Overhaul
Numerous enthusiasts admired the revamped design, labeling it as “awesome” or urging others to follow suit by modifying their own Pokemon SoulSilver game. Yet, not everyone was pleased with the refurbishing process. The player themselves acknowledges in their post that the swapping isn’t flawless. Although the game operates smoothly, there were challenges in making everything fit just right. Unfortunately, the system no longer supports Infra-Red (IR) communication like the original cartridges did. These cartridges had a small port for direct communication with external devices such as the PokeWalker, which this modified version can no longer do.
A similar worry has been expressed about this new version of Pokemon Gold and Silver. Unlike the original, which had plastic cartridges with a metallic appearance, this one is made entirely of metal. Some people are concerned that it might scratch the cartridge slot on a Nintendo DS, potentially causing damage to the console. However, Supertazon has assured us that they don’t plan on removing the cartridge frequently, so hopefully, there will be no issues with the device.
For both Pokemon enthusiasts and those who aren’t, there’s a certain nostalgic charm attached to gold video game cartridges, especially when used on consoles like the N64 by Nintendo. This newly crafted version of the cartridge might not appeal to every Pokemon fan, but it’s heartening to see the reimagined classics receive the same thoughtful treatment as their original counterparts did.
