Pokemon GO might soon change how players participate in Mega Raids, a popular part of the game. Reports suggest a new in-game currency will be introduced for these raids. Pokemon GO, a very successful mobile game where players catch monsters, offers many challenges, especially for those seeking the strongest Pokemon. The game features different types of raids, including battles against Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon, and Shadow Raids. But Mega Raids are particularly well-liked by players due to their unique features.
Mega Raids are a simple way for Pokémon GO players to obtain Pokémon that can Mega Evolve. Mega Pokémon have been a key part of Pokémon GO since the feature launched in late 2020, bringing many Mega Evolutions from the main series games into the mobile game. These raids were introduced alongside some of the game’s toughest challenges, with more Mega Pokémon added over time. Now, Pokémon GO might be emphasizing Mega Raids even more with a possible new currency system tied to them.
Pokemon GO May Be Adding a New Currency
A well-known Pokemon GO leaker, The Pokemod Group, has revealed a new item found within the game’s code. These items, called “Link Charges,” are expected to be a new, improved currency used to access Mega Raids instead of traditional Raid Passes. It’s also anticipated that players will need Link Charges to participate in Mega Raids remotely. While the item has been found in the game files, there’s no official word yet on when Link Charges will be released to players.
Although Link Charges will likely be a paid item, Pokémon GO players may be able to earn them for free. Data found within the game’s code indicates that players could receive Link Charges by completing weekly challenges, checking in on Campfire, and opening gifts. Screenshots shared by The Pokémon Group also show that various Link Charge bundles will be available in the in-game shop, though prices haven’t been announced yet.
Mega Raids May Be Making a Big Comeback
The announcement of a possible new currency in Pokemon GO has sparked debate among players. Some worry it could make the game more expensive and limit access to key features unless players pay. Others believe the game’s challenging Mega Raids need improvement, especially since the oldest ones are tied to special Pokemon evolutions. This new currency is also expected to coincide with a greater emphasis on Mega Pokemon in upcoming updates.
The launch of Pokemon Legends: Z-A likely means Pokemon GO will soon add many new Mega Evolutions. Pokemon Legends Z-A introduced over 40 new Mega Pokemon, including Mega forms for all three starters from the Kalos region. Pokemon GO has previously added all prior Mega Evolutions and has confirmed that Mega Malamar and Mega Victreebel will appear during the upcoming GO Tour: Kalos event. Players can also anticipate significant updates to Mega Raids, as the game developers aim to revitalize this long-standing challenge.
