Okay, so Pokemon GO just dropped all the details for the January 2026 Community Day! They announced which Pokemon will be the star, when the event starts, and what kind of cool bonuses we can expect. Honestly, this game always has something going on, which is awesome. It keeps things fresh and gives us players a reason to keep playing and catching ’em all!
Pokémon GO hosts monthly Community Days, special events where players can easily find and catch a particular Pokémon. Recently, the game celebrated its December 2025 Community Day, a two-day event featuring Pokémon from every month of the year. It’s a great way to revisit past events and gives players a second chance to catch those they missed. Now, with January around the corner, Niantic has announced the details for the next Community Day.
Pokemon GO Community Day January 2026 Details
- January 18, 2026 from 2pm–5pm local time
Niantic is starting 2026 with a special event: Grookey, the Chimp Pokemon, will be the focus of January’s Community Day! The event takes place on Sunday, January 18th, 2026, from 2 PM to 5 PM local time. Grookey first appeared in the Pokemon Sword and Shield video games as one of the grass-type starter Pokemon in the Galar region, alongside other new starters like Sobble the water lizard and Scorbunny the fire rabbit.
During the upcoming Pokémon GO Community Day, you’ll find Grookey appearing much more often in the wild, including its rare Shiny version and some with a special event background. If you evolve Grookey into Thwackey and then Rillaboom during the event or within four hours afterward, they’ll be able to learn the powerful Frenzy Plant Charged Attack. Niantic has also announced that Rillaboom can learn Drum Beating, a 60-damage attack that weakens the opponent’s attack.
But wait, there’s more! Niantic is doing a special January Community Day research thing, and it looks like it’ll give me even more chances to find Grookey, plus stuff like Ultra Balls and Stardust. If I really want to boost my chances of finding a shiny Grookey in Pokemon GO, I can use a Lure Module on a PokeStop – it’ll not only increase my shiny odds, but I can also get a Grookey with a cool, unique background! And there are a bunch of other event bonuses active during the day too.

- 3× Stardust for catching Pokémon.
- 2× Candy for catching Pokémon.
- 2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon.
- Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will last for three hours.
- Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!
- Lure Modules will last for one hour and may attract the featured Pokémon.
- One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of three for the day.
- Trades will require 50% less Stardust.
Pokémon GO players have a lot to anticipate before 2026! Starting December 18th, the Winter Holiday Part 1 event will bring costumed Pokémon like Sudowoodo, new festive items, and special bonuses. Players can also purchase a free or premium event pass to earn extra rewards such as XP and unique Pokémon encounters.
